After looking here, there, and everywhere for engine mounts including the pads, we managed to find after market mounts(no pads tho) from Repco for $60 each, retail. Nissan wanted $170 each which included the pads.

Now, no one seemed to know what the pads were for though and even a well known EO Forum Identity GQ Expert was flummoxed.

The pad is an attachment to the mount, made of steel and coated with rubber. It fits loosely into a bracket and it prevents the engine from falling sideways should an engine mount break. That was the noise I had been hearing since February as an engine mount had broken. Meanwhile I have been to Darwin and back and places inbetween.

The mechanic's assistant declared that he will never work on another bloody GQ engine mount again as long as he lives as it was a bastard of a job....lol

GQ is running sweetly again.

Cheers

It may help if you loosen the rear engine mounts a tad. They are under the gearbox sort-of but are called engine mounts.

They must all be giving up the ghost around now. Son's GQ engine mounts were replaced a couple of weeks ago. Must be a bit like the GQ engine mount bug (like the Y2K bug, only this one happened).

Hi Norm

Yes, not sure which came first. The thirteen years of age or the 346,000km ? oNly one broke but better to replace both.

G'day Ange

In the beginning the gearbox came out 3 times for a variety of reasons and was fixed in the end. My mechanic bought a gearbox jack and it paid for itself very quickly. I have given up stuffing around with the big jobs. Let someone else do them...lol

And when you are lucky enough to find parts they cost a small fortune.

There is a wrecker on the Hume Hwy just out of Melbourne who stocks Nissan parts. Two tail lights, one indicator stalk, a front parker light, and 4 doorhandle molds cost close on $500. Had to have them...sooooooo. Bugga!
