handy. I don't think I have too many problems with that. In fact, at my age I would love to have to show ID to by some alcohol.

I have trouble with some of the other restrictions (permits to travel in my own country, etc,), but not this one.

The majority shouldnt be punished by the problems of a few.
My answer to this problem in Alice and other places is probably the most cost effective. It would save the tax payer billions of dollars, save the planet tons of oxygen and free up wasted space for recreation or developement : called a bullet, lol ....

Lionel, You may or may not be joking (I notice the lol) but I thought I might bring to your attention a section of the Racial and Religious Hatred Bill 2003 (A Federal Act)

60 Prohibition of incitement of racial hatred because of race, colour, religion or national or ethnic origin
(1) A person must not, with the intention of inciting racial hatred against another person or a group of people, do an act, otherwise than in private, if the act:

(a) is reasonably likely, in all the circumstances, to incite racial hatred against the other person or group of people; and

(b) is done because of the race, colour, religion or national or ethnic origin of the other person or of some or all of the people in the group.

Penalty: Imprisonment for 1 year.

(2) For the purposes of subsection (1), an act is taken not to be done in private if it:

(a) causes words, sounds, images or writing to be communicated to the public; or

(b) is done in a public place; or

(c) is done in the sight or hearing of people who are in a public place.

(3) In this section:

public place includes any place to which the public have access as a right or by invitation, whether express or implied and whether or not a charge is made for admission to the place.

Just something you may wish to think about. If I'm barking up the wrong tree, please forgive me.

Cheers

Alan

Geoff/Lionel,

That is despicable. Even said in jest, and I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt, comments like that are reprehensible in any civilised society.

Jimbo, please tell me what I said that was despicable or don't you take the time to read and comprehend the posts in their entirety .... before you open mouth and insert foot?

You may take note that I was disagreeing with the original post, but that may be just a little too straight forward for you to comprehend.

Have a nice day .... Geoff

You agreed with Lionel who said "called a bullet". That is tantamount to genocide. Do you really advocate this solution?

Mr. Jimbo, besides your lack of comprehension that I referred to above, your reading/spelling falls into the same category.

Here's a hint ...... why don't you try to differentiate between the letters "M" and "T" before you make your stupid posts.

Again ..... have a nice day.

Geoff M (that "M" NOT "T")

Religion,Race etc .. is all well and good .. no problem with that ..

but .. I am not willing to pay the bill for the drunks, junkies, smokers and all the fats clogging up the health system becayse they can't help themselves ... drunks should be dealt with swiftly, wether aboriginal in Alice or white behind a wheel ... drink and drive and you should walk for the rest of your life ...

have fun

Geoff M,

Instead of abusing people and calling them names, you might consider the reason for a response.

If you look at followup 6 above you'll note I didn't differentiate between M and T, I didn't notice quite frankly. My mistake.

Had you taken the time to read what was said, you would have realised it was not directed at you.

BTW, I've had two lovely days, thanks for your kind wishes.

Handy

Better a good Alice, than a bad Alice. I've got a bit of an affinity for Scrubby town, and wouldn't like to see one of the best Outback Centres deteriorate any further.

Could be, that a bit of short pain will turn into long term gain. I don't think the Federal Government's program is going to work, but we'll wait an see.

Kim

#$$%Y&^$^##$.....Its just so simple ...Isnt it???
Firstly, what is the problem???..Could it be , Welfare dependant people with no consept of money, time and OUR values living in OUR conditions????

If not..you dont live here!

Our problem is ..just that.

To stop the problem would be ...dont support it!
If you dont have a job its your choice not to ,
but dont expect grog money.
The problem with the new law is not the inconvienience to others but the lack of thought that goes into this tripe.

My kids and I could not bake a cake the other day because vanilla esence is kept in the bottle dept. and it doesnt open until 2.00..
Who did this affect???
Every law so far has not worked.. did they retract the shhiity law ...no!
They just added another one.
I dont care about produceing ID to buy grog ( until the day I forgot to bring ti!)
BUT the next call will be the grog card we have all spoken about AND the limit!
Think about it.. an EO member rolls up one day...everythings good... some one says , how about we get a few beers ...pizza or something and make a night of it...
Shhit..sorry mate..Ive been to the pub today...you dont like my flavour and you dont have a grog card!

Try living with this Crap...Especially when there will still be a blue next door tonight and the only people it all affects will be those who have to get up inthe morning and go to work! ( not to mention your kids)

There you go Handy
You just got enough bait for the next trip.

Cheers

I totally agree Hairy. Its a bloody joke. The Cape York LAWS are a farce as well.We work bloody hard to spend our money on fuel, food, lures and not to mention a 4wd.I think we are damn well entitled to bottle of bloody rum or a carton of heavy beer.
Cheers.

Just had a thought, this could all be solved if you played the race card but we can't do this in Aust so fair enough, but what if you only got a grog card if you have a job! White or black!
Now is the only time you own
Decide now what you will,
Place faith not in tomorrow
For the clock may then be still

Gday Lyndon,
There has been a grog card being discussed for a long time.
It was just a card you would get from the MVR or someone like that, that enabled you to buy grog. Every one black or white is entitled to one. If you were proven to be a problem drunk your card would be suspended so you couldnt buy any. All liquor outlets would be linked together so you couldnt just go to another pub and anyone supplying this person would be heavily fined and have their card suspended too.
But there was two main issuses why id didnt go ahead.....

1. How would tourists buy grog?
I reackon easy, show your drivers licence or something to say your from interstate or buy being a house guest.

2.House break ins would increase.
Again easy...Lock the bastards up for a long time and build another jail if their is no room.

Cheers

just letting the rest of the country know what people in places like alice have to put up with to have a drink.
i live in a [dry] community and when i get to town i like to have a drink after not having one for over a month.
i just dont like the innocent [black or white] suffer for the trouble the minority cause.

While I enjoy a drink (or 10) as much as anyone else, I don't really have a problem with dry areas. Really... if you can't enjoy whereever you are without alcohol, it's probably not your type of place anyway?

It's not just Alice, it is the whole Territory, it started today.

All Aboriginal land in the Territory is alcohol free as of today. I watched plenty of blackfellas driving to the Bark Hut Inn yesterday as I drove back to Jabiru.

Places like Darwin, Katherine, Tennant and Alice will now be full of blackfellas, So Mal Function hasn't actually fixed the problem, he has just moved it.

In fact he has just F@CKED UP the system that was put in place to stop these people from driving hundreds of km to buy grog and then kill themselves and others on their way home.

Steve.
