Anyone been through the ford at
Tom Groggin recently? How deep is it? (We've been through in summer and it was fine, but imagine it might be considerably deeper.)
Before anyone offers, yes I know Davies Plain and Pinnibar Tracks from
Tom Groggin are closed. We are thinking of going up
Tom Groggin Tk, Mt Hope Rd, Mt Anderson Tk and along
the ridge to Mt Pinnibar (which are not subject to seasonal closure). Anyone know what that route is like at present?

Des,
I have not traveled the areas more recently than yourself.
Check post 43755,
http://waterinfo.nsw.gov.au/index.epl?site=401012&ref=
Murray rv. at Biggara is just west of
Khancoban.
Using the advanced form options, you can see what the river levels were like when you were last there and compare them to current. Whilst they are in different locations, 300mm chage at the down stream site wont equal 300mm at
Tom Groggin, the data will give you a feel for current levels compared to your last visit.
Paul.

Thanks Paul. Pity there isn't a monitoring station at
Tom Groggin.

I have my doubts they would appreciate lot's of people ringing them to ask how deep the river is.

That was my feeling too.
The people at
Tom Groggin station should be left alone as far as possible. They have to cope with a lot: e.g. gates not being left as found; some people ignoring the signs and crossing the bridge into the property instead of using the ford. Too much of that sort of thing and 4WD access through the property will be lost.

At this time of year the crossing is always pretty deep and flowing fast due to snow melt and care needs to be taken.
Also alot of the tracks in the area are still subject to seasonal road closure until at least November and others listed as open may not be due to fallen trees etc.
Best to check the Parks Vic web site for the closure info to see what you may be able to access before worrying if the TG ford is passable.

Have checked the Parks Vic site. There is nothing about the route I am asking about.
