Hi Bundy

HID is a better quality light.

If you want better light than the XGT's then think about a set of HID's. My HID's on my cruiser are great. The only problem is they are so bright when you dip to low beam it is like you have gone blind. I am currently looking at importing HID inserts for popular 4wds low beam.

Regards

Derek.

Yes, but like most things it is easier to buy the right product from the start.

HID conversion kits are quite expensive.

Bundy, as Derek said, HID's are great, but you really need the HID headlights as well. 35 watt low and high, 50 watt spots, 6000k temp, brilliant white light.

Lights are just ways of throwing different wavelength heat out in front of an object. If your Nanes are the go stick with them.

Best lights I ever had were 100w aircraft landing lights 5.5 inch. Great lights, spread and depth, but I like my XGT's.

The blue lens would have been reducing the light you would see from the XGT's. Blue light has the lowest reflective properties and cause what u see is really reflected wavelengths of heat, with blue light u see less. So I am not surprised they were better with a clear lens.

The swivels on mine were the earlier ones and once they were locked in they didnt move. Mate had the same thing with the elbow in the swivel bolts and they were useless

The best lights that I had were also the 5 inch aircraft landing lights, athough using the 150W sealed beam bulbs.

A very good pencil beam, although the mounting system was cr@p.

I take it that have used relays.....maybe get a bigger Alternator , a $350.00 one like mine ,
Been workin a bit eh

Bundy,
I'm not trying to be a smart arse but have you tried adjusting the lights (rotating to change between pencil and spread).

I have the 240 blitz and have used them before and find them pretty good. I had IPF lights on my last car and the blitz are better than they were.
cheers

Robert,
You can't adjust the spread/pencil output on the XGTs in the same way as you can with the Blitz.....

I too am not overly impressed. I am going to make one a spread using the special cover. I also think the red lens would be better because it would retain night vision when the lights are off as well.

I find the XGT pencil beam very sensitive to appropriate alignment. get them aligned well, an the light is not too bad. The problem is, the mechanism that locks them is next to useless on corrugations. Mine never stay put.

Best light setup I ever ha was on my rally car. 5.5 inch aircraft landing lights and Cibie Super Oscars

Cheers

get rid of the lens covers......what ever cover
we tried them out when shooting cats and fox's using nightforce hand held spotlights...the amount of light that gets thru is usless for distance shooting....but they do hilight fox eyes at close range say up to 50m...but past that bloody useless

and as some else said above...give em plenty of heavy gauge cable and relay etc etc which can provide the grunt needed to drive them....voltage drop is also a killer

Nudie, you are right on with the cable. Some people like to give their light systems a handicap right at the start.

I hope you take your blue glasses off when shooting as you would need to use a 24v battery on a 12v light to overcome the lenses.

Just how far do you expect to 'see' down the road- and what range are you getting now...
I would think that seeing about 1.5km down the road would be more than enough for normal night driving!! But then if you want to push on at 130kph then that may be different...

Yeah! my type of guy.

Bundy boy, I like turning night into day at 1.5 - 2.0 kms as well and to do so I employ 3 Ironman Supa-Nova HID'S up on the top.

Besides what Bonz says, by the way he is a one eyed, blue heat, lightforce eater who is so smitten with heated blue crap that he wouldn't admit under the threat of torture that anything else post Lightforce is better.

Mate don't waste your money on blue, red, purple, pink, polka dot pieces of plastic Chit.

HID'D are the way forward young man.

Fry the eyeballs of a gnat at 500 - 1000 metres.

Toast a Roo as you pass

Make a GU boil (which doesn't take much I must admit)

Go for it I say.

HID's rule..! I have some Xenon Hella's , one pencil and one spread , the pencil has a range of 750 meters, hell I can't see that far so it don't matter. Great lights and great technology HID but you gotta be careful you don't blind anyone out there..

Bundy, if you don't wanna spend too much, try the IPF 900XS. See if you can get one of the spot for a test, to compare.

Hell, lets get together and compare my 900XS against your XGT!

4WD monthly also recon the Cibie Oscar SC are pretty good.
