This is my first post on this forum.
We are planning to bush camp along the Murray, on a sandy stretch of river west of Echuca.
I assume Horsebend and Scotts Beach would be a little too close to town.
Plan to go in a weeks time, last week of September 07.
Any thoughts or suggestions will be welcome.

We have camped many times in the Barmah and Echuca forests but thought we would head more east for a change.

Cheers, T & T

Do it soon as the V.E.A.C. report wants to shut off many camping areas along the Murray (Vic side) and put restrictions on what you can do. Good old Vic Labour.stuffing another place up.

To the contry Lindsay, the Labour Party aren't stuffing up another place, all the campers are. Unfortunate as the new proposals are for the Red Gum Forrests its as a direct result of over camping, people burning all the firewood, cutting down trees, driving & riding cross country, causing erosion, defacating too close to the river & leaving their rubbish everywhere. I live close to the Murray & the forrest areas around there are certainly declining fast from overuse. Something had to be done. The majority of campsites will remain. The ones to close are on thin stretches of bush where there is insufficient distance to dig pit toilets that wont leech into the river. A few areas (Barmah/Ovens River) that are to be declared National parks will have more formal camping areas. Unfortunately fires will now be banned alltogether in the National Park & in Summer in the Reserves.
It appears that campers indifference to looking after the area will now cost them with reduced access.
Cheers Craig..............

Go down past the meat works and the trotting track , over the levee bank , past the pumping station , follow the road around to the left...till you come to a fork in the road , one goes left the other goes north , the river will be on your right ...go about half a km then there is a large open camping area on a bend....nice and quiet , the road is not to bad....we did it with a falcon wagon and dual axle 17ft poptop a few months ago when the drought broke and we had to get out as there was more water on the road than in the river.....call in at the info centre at Cobram they are very helpful...or they were to us...cheers

The beach is called ..Davies beach and has a sign post at the fork in the road(rather indistinct but readable)...the only people we saw in 2 weeks was a couple of trail bike riders and maybe two other couples just driving around.

Thanks Bruce.
We will head in that direction.
I did see Davies beach on google or wikimaepia but thought maybe good ole Dave had marked his own spot!
The idea of trail bike riders would put us off staying there for long! Nothing worse to our ears that the sound of motor bikes roaring over the sounds of the forest and river!

Dont let the fact that trail bikes were there put you of...they went past us in all of about 20 seconds and that was the first and last we saw or heard of them...we like the peace and quiet and do not like noisy bikes of any sort ...but to some they are music to their ears...it really is a nice spot and out of the way to boot....just a pity there was not much water in the river....cheers

Cobrawonga forest between Cobram & Yarrawonga has large areas of fine camping spots adjacent to the river.
