Hi just wondering if anyone knows whether it is possible to copy data from a bluechart chip onto another one eg.microsd card. Could be for backing up purposes or to share the charts.

Yes you could copy from Card to another. , not sure what you mean by Bluechart Chip though, Remember though it will not operate on anothers GPS unless you get another 25 digit Unlock Code for the second GPS ,that will have then used the 2 codes , if you then get a new GPS you will have to buy a new CD

Been giving your question some thought, by chip I take it you mean internal Memory, Internal Memory is just not Bluechart, City Navigator can go on it too, You didn't mention the model GPS , If you can't open the Internal Memory as like the Nuvi models so you can see and copy the files then I guess the answer is No, if you have the CD for the Bluechart Section then the answer is Yes, copy the files from the CD to the PC Hard Drive, not that it will do any good , I tried installing Mapsource from a CD copied to the PC and it won't work , you have to run it from the CD .

Doug,
Some Garmins (like my 276C) have a removable memory card ( proprietary). It can only be used in their units. They sell their mapping software pre loaded onto their card if you wish or get the CD and write it too the unit via Mapsource. I don't think you specifically copy from the card.
You are correct about the unlock codes only being able to be used with two units. I have City Navigator 6 and City Navigator NZ and I have just used the second code to access them from my new 60Cx. The 60Cx uses a micro SD card that makes it easy to load maps and waypoints etc. with a card reader on your computer.

Hi Mayesy.
It can't be, copied and used.
The tracks and waypoints you record with it can be.
