Hi all,
just wondering the best way to secure spare wheels to the carrier on the rear of a 80 sxeries...can't seem to find a padlock that will fit through the slot... do you elongate the slot to fit a padlock????? does anyone just use lock nuts....even fairly easy to remove.Understand nothing is thief proof but if they are going to steal my wheels at least i'll make it hard for them....

cheers in advance

p.s wheel carrier is opposite lock sourced(not sure of brand)

Depends on what sort of carrier dont it ? on my Kaymar I have the option of a padlock thru the wheel to the "hub" or a padlock thru the slotted bar / hubcap/kaymar sticker carrier or can use a lock type wheel nut , either way if someone realy wants to pinch the wheel it would still only take a minute or two , anybody with a 12" shifter and a flat bladed screwdriver could remove the carrier bearing cap and remove the bearing nut and just walk off with the carrier arm and wheel in a couple of seconds anyway , the harder you make it the greater the loss will be. , Thats my theory anyhow , bit like some people padlocking a tent , what would you sooner lose , the small bit they walk in and steal or the tent cut up and all things gone because " good stuff must be in there if they padlock it "

Hi Mick

I have a cable and lock system, I think it is called a python. It is very neat and because I have my high lift with it I can do both with the one lock.

Have fun

Hi. I have a Kaymar rear wheel carrier. I drilled out the slot to take a weather-proof padlock. The padlock is removed when on trips as on rough roads it just touches (and damages) the vehicle body. Cheers

Be careful in the Outback or in extreme dust, as the lock will fill with dust & prevent the key from entering.
