Goobot,

Not sure - my 20i Honda runs my 3 stage 20amp charger no worries - have a look on the specs or the bottom of the charger. It may have the wattage that it uses inscribed on a label. As long as it is less than about 850w (comfortable for a 1kva gennie) it should run no worries.

If you haven't got the charger yet check the website for the above stats.

Hi,
My Honda EU10i runs a 30 Amp 3-stage charger without any troubles. Is yours one of those Honda's?

For the purpose of theoretically calculating how much power the battery charger draws we can do this:
14volts x 30Amps = 420Watts

Even if we said the charger was only 50% efficient just for the purpose of an estimate, we get,
420Watts x 2 = 840Watts

Which is still inside the 850 or 900 so Watts of a 1kva Honda.

So the answer to your question is "sure will"

Geoff.

I recently purchased a Jaycar power meter (MB6115) which shows the direct Amps and Watts as well as keeps track of Kwh for 240v.

You plug it into a power socket and then plug the appliance into the meter. Looks like one of those digital timers. Very handy for monitoring what load you are running on the generator.

I plugged the Ctek 15 Amp into it and the peak reading while it was delivering bulk stage charge to a 100AH battery was 60 watts @240v. Running on the Honda EU10 it would hardly move it off Eco-throttle idle.

Reckon you could run up to a 50Amp charger of one of these. Suprising just how little power it takes to run a charger. At one camp we had 4 fridges and 5 battery chargers running on a 1Kva Yamaha and it was running at nowehere near full revs.

Cheers

Yep,

That's the one. They did have a different one that was MB6115 but could not get them anymore. This one is the replacement and I have been waiting months for them to come in. The Gepps Cross store here in SA got about 50 of them and within days when I called in there were 4 left!

Very handy device indeed.

60 watts suggests the charger was only putting about 4 amps into the battery? Something wrong somewhere I think?

Yes, I did think that it was a lowish number however the battery had been in storage for 2 months with no load and it was a maintenance charge so maybe the Ctek in it's programming worked out that it only needed 4 amps. Not too sure.

The power meter is only new so I will have to try it on battery after it has had a bit more discharge and see what difference it makes.

Yes it will without a problem at all.

My Honda EU10i runs our 30A 3 stage charger in the camper or the 30A 3 stage charger in the car but will not run both at the same time whilst both are in Boost mode. I have to wait until one goes to float before I can connect up the other charger.

Hi Goo

Yes easily.

Take 25Amps x 14.7 volts and add 15% as most chargers are 85% efficient.

425W should run the Ctek 25A unit at 12V.

Your 1.0kva will run it with ease. Just a note. I have heard the 1.0kva Honda glazes the bore quite easily so it is best to run it with a load. Use a 100W light bulb to keep the Honda working at a reasonable load when the charger enters 'Float' mode.

Regards

Derek.
