just having a reread of the trip and see john is worried about an election that weekend personally i think it would be a bit of a hoot to see 30+4bs pull into avoca to all do their voting but the electoral officer might not see the funny side
cant let little johnny get in the way of a good trip lololol

Steve didn't you hear, you can now vote over the telephone.
It's a 1902 number based in the Canary Islands and is charged at $5.75 inc.GST per minute and slightly more from mobiles (maximum call cost $83.99).

Ah Steve just had a look at it and it said...
If you decide or think it's a waste of time to vote there is another 1902 number based in the Canary Islands and this one is charged at $3.70 inc.GST per minute and slightly more from mobiles (maximum call cost $127.45).
Apparently they keep you one the telephone longer by begging you to vote and how it will help the American economy.
And they also send you a 50% discount voucher for a Wendy's Thickshake and Hotdog.
Regards Richard

If it's election weekend I'll have to miss
the Pyrenees trip.
It's been nearly 70 years since we have seen a PM lose the election and his
seat on the same day. Especially a grubby weasel like this one.
We decent people always have an election night "do". We haven't had a proper one since the "sweetest victory of all" in 1993.
Stanley Bruce (Dec) will have John Winston Howard join a most exclusive club shortly.
These miracles come along only once in a lifetime. I look forward to it.

Also, I know a bloke who has a jag for sale for about $4k maybe less, dark green (not british racing green) a little rust but otherwise pretty tidy. I think it as the 4.2 V6. he is on the
gold coast.....

Truckie,
before we had computers we had these funny stick like things called pens which were used for marking stuff, like shirt pockets, kids faces and paper, yes paper, the stuff the printer churns out. Anyway, people manually marked the individual letters out manually, this was called writing. Much of childhood was devoted to learning how to writing. Once a piece of paper had the required amount of writing it was often folded and put in an "envelope", a pocket like thing also made from paper which has an uncanny resemblence to an icon in outlook express. This envelope was then transported manually to the person you want to read it. Reading the said writing was sometimes difficult as people's skill level varied.
I hope this clarifies it, you may find more information on letter sending in Wikipedia.
Incidentally I'm not sure why it is called a letter as there are usually hundreds if not thousands of letters on a single page.
Nick

I have been ruminating over this trip for a while and think it should be a "themed" participation, and the theme should be PIRATES. Just the dressup and a few "Aaaahhhrrrrr Me Hearties" and the odd eyepatch or two.
The inclusion of 40 odd people turning up at Avoca to vote in Pirate Garb is very very very enticing
