Hi All,
I am considering having a
suspension upgrade and about a two inch lift on my 100 TD cruiser.
I have done most of the research on the upgrade itself and I am pretty comfortable with what to do in this area.
The lift will be fine with my current set-up and towing a camper trailer but in the future my other half will win the battle and we will upgrade to a caravan.
My question is how will the lift perform when towing a van, will it have any positive or negative effects or will it make no difference at all.
I would appreciate your thoughts on this.
Thanks,
Matt

Matt having upgraded the
suspension on 60 Series TD Cruiser by 2 inches and my 21ft caravan by 4 inches, I have been thru the exercise.
Firstly you do not say what type of hitch you have, probably not an adjustable Haymen Reece with height adjustment and cams, so I would suggest that when you hook up the camper trailer, it will not be level after you have upgraded your cruiser
suspension. Because of the weight of the trailer I don't think you will have any towing problems, its probably only a visual impact.
One way of overcoming the height problem is just to purchase another towbar tongue 2 inches lower. Of course, if your partner gets her way in the future, it may be cheaper in the long term to buy the Haymen Reece setup and do not use the Torsion bars when towing the camper trailer.
Note The Haymen Reece solution will create other challenges as there are at least 4 different hitches all adjustable to cater for different tow ball heights of Caravans/trailers something in the range of 250mm to 500mm.
I think the standard ball height for most caravans is 340mm (this seems low) but you need to confirm.

I lifted my 100 live axle and then all hell broke out with the trailer height. I towed a tradesmans trailer with 14 inch tyres before the lift and the trailer sat level and tongue height was perfect, after lifting with a two inch kit the tongue went up nearly six. The back was sagged but the front wasnt so when the kit went in the back came up 110mm at the axle and the front came up 55mm. I needed to put the trailer axle under
the springs, change to a 235x75x15 tyre and lift the front another 30mm with spacers.
As for towing the trailer no great difference other than it now has a higher centre of gravity so it tends to rock on bumps and when I get to the job now my
tools are a mess on the floor and the shelves are empty!!
After getting dirty for a few weekends solving the probs I would never go back.
Good luck Chard.
