Hi All,

I've had a couple of Travel Mugs over the years and they all have plastic liners. With my latest one I can taste the plastic in my coffee, no good! I'm looking for a thermos-type one with a stainless steel inner. I bought one for the old man years ago from an Avon fathers day catalogue and it's been great, but I don't think they have them anymore.

Does anyone have a 'good one' that they could recommend. No plastic please!

Thanks,

Mark.

Gday Mark, Thermos do one and you can get then from most camping shops (Anaconda has then).

We use our travel mugs heaps and had a look at most of them in the market, the biggest problem we found was the tops on them would either leak or come off easy.

Your going to hate this, we ended up buying the ones from Mc Donalds but they are plastic lined and stainless outers, out of the ones we have had over the years these ones are the best.

I think the biggest problem with the stainless ones are they are made to a price and try and compete with the other types (stainless out , plastic inner).

We would quite happily pay up to $40.00 each if we could find good full stainless ones that didn't leak or the tops come off.

The other thing is you have drink holders in your vehicle, make sure they fit.

Have you tried looking on eBay? Would probably come under Collectables: Avon s/steel travel mugs.
Never know your luck.

I know what you mean Richard, with leaking lids!

McDonalds hey? Do they have a picture of Ronald McDonald on them? I have a feeling that Macca's and Avon use the 'promotional' mugs that are everywhere on the Internet. Did a search last night and these kept coming up. Still, if they work well...Need to find a Stainless one though, don't like the thought of plastic leachig into my drink.

Thanks Richard,

Mark.

By Coincidence Mark a friend of mine - also member here - told me how he just got the ideal thing here with no plastic from Kmart after looking at all the camping shops and not finding the answer.

I think you are probably a way from Kmart - so will try to firm up, see if I can get him to answer online , as we were discussing design of a bike trailer for simpson dessert and I was only half tuned in.

Thanks Robin,

We will be near a K-Mart next week while visiting family, so I'll drop in and check them out.

Haha Mark this sounds petty but it took me ages to find some new and good travel mugs.

Did all the camping stores and all I could find are screw top ones. Im very much against the screw top, finding them hard to clean. Lots of rinse and clean later...hence its a travel mug! I didnt want the opportunity for bacteria etc to build up on the threaded area and able to drink without the lid on and not have a threaded section to drink from.

After lots of search I happened on the Muzz Buzz coffee outlets own mug....but have seen them in other stores without the Muzz Print. Ally liner and plastic outer and the lid pushes into the cup for a seamless rim. Also the cup holds plenty and still has a base that will fit in any cup holder.

All the best with your search...

Matt.

We just use china ones, had then for years, carted them all through the High Country & the Outback in our Track Eagle camper trailer.

Who said suspension isn't important??

You have a couple of options.

Like someone else posted you can get them at Kmart. They have plastic outer casing but the internal seciton is stainless steel and they are Thermos Brand in the Homeware Section.

Gloria Jeans also sells a similiar type of mug. They have a couple of brands including Thermos.

I recenlty got a couple from Kathmandu, they were on sale so ended up being $30 for two them.

They have a plastic outer but stainless steel inner and the lid is not screw on.

Good luck.
