I have a new Triton Dual Cab and wish to locate a second battery at the rear of the vehicle to run my Waeco 80L fridge only. I intend to use a 100ah AGM. For charging can I run a wire direct from the alternator to the proposed AGM? If so, how thick should the wire be to get as quicker charge as possible and do I need a fuse or any other safety devices? Trying to do it as cheaply and simply as possible. I only drive the vehicle for 40 minutes per day.

If you only drive for 40 minutes each day why do need a 80lt fridge,
For the electrical question what I would do , [ and my methods are always different to what an Auto sparky would do but it works ] is just run a heavy duty wire from the Pos' terminal of the main Battery to the + of the 2nd battery , and a earth from the Neg' terminal to the body of the vehicle, then connect the fridge as normal to an Anderson Plug fitted to the body which would be connected to the battery, It will still get charged , I would also use a Deep Cycle Optima Yellow Top Battery,
If you wanted to add an Isolator Switch kit, you could wire that in following the instructions that would come with it, that could be obtained from TJM or ARB,
Some might ask why Optima, answer is I believe them to be reliable and mine has not faulted in 3 years, also vibration resistant.

Would this drain the vehicles main battery as it is connected all the time and the fridge runs constantly? I have a large fridge for camping as I have 3 kids. Fridge is used daily as an esky for drinks and the missus going shopping.
