Can someone help.

Its been ages since I ran a GPS through Oziexplorer on a Laptop. I use a PDA with Bluetooth GPS. I am trying to set it up for a mate and am having troubles with it in moving map.

I have set the software to Garmin USB, tried baud rate a at both 4800 and 9600. I can transfer Waypoints and tracks up and down but moving map doesn't work.

Any Ideas will be great...

Morning

Baud rate is 4800

Check that you have the right comms port selected.

When using USB these suckers sometimes create either a virtual comms port or extra comms ports up, to 8 of them.

Just have to find the right one.

And

Turn moving map ON of course.

PS

Are you still on for Broken Hill in May next year with Des Lexic.

Lucy
4800 is it, I can remember having something on 9600, maybe that was in the GPS Map 176C , as I said I can't remember and can't be bothered with Ozi now after using T4A ,
My version of Ozi is old too, V 3.95 ,I might bin it .

Hi Guys,

Have checked comms etc, wouldn't do the upload and download of Waypoints etc if port was wrong.

Its strange, but I think I have had it happen before. I set one up as a test using a USB GPS mouse on the weekend and it worked fine, as you say just using a virtual comms port. Just this Garmin Quest that is giving me a headache..

Yes am fine for the Hill with Uncle Des next year, if he gets back.. I had to send my GPS to him in Perth last week, seems the 50 series banged and rattled till the GPS dropped out onto the floor and broke.. :-)

Now you are asking the impossible.

My memory cells on this subjuct died a zillion years ago.

However one of the other replies just jogged something.

NMEA 4800 is thge setting for a garmin from memory.

Yeah I thought about the waypoint/route transfer and the COMM port, however, Garmin is just such a bitch to setup cause it can do all sorts of weird things.

Keep you posted re the Hill for next year.

I run Ozi a couple years back with a Quest, all the GPS does is becomes a reciever , 9600 is correct, software to Garmin USB correct, other than that I can't remember how I done it, don't use Ozi anymore,

Hmmm
I thought you knew everything Douggie....
The Quest only has USB, therefore, the baudrate is irrelevant.....
Cheers

Moving Map requires the use of the NMEA protocol rather than the proprietry Garmin Protocol.

At least this is the case for my eMap and OziExplorer on the laptop.

Setting the eMap to Garmin allows me to upload/download tracks, waypoints etc, but moving map does not work until i switch the eMap over to NMEA. Then all is sweet.

i find it easier to check the "Use PVT for Garmin instead of NMEA" box instead of changing heaps of GPSrs over (in my case).....though your way works normally :-)

You're probably right there Andrew.

I just remember back to when i first tried to use the moving map back in 2002 and not sure if the PVT for Garmin option was available back then. All i knew was that after consulting the Ozi's help manual (something i usually dont do) i flicked the GPS onto NMEA and voila!

So haven't bothered trying anything else. Might give that PVT option a run - saves me making the change on the GPS!

Hi Blaze,

Have you also checked the box (in file==>configuration==>com) for "Use PVT for Garmin instead of NMEA"? Otherwise you "may" need to fiddle around with the GPS interface settings.....
