I'm in the market for a new tent.
Currently we have a large double dome tent that is great in situations were we are staying for several days. But for overnighters and touring the set up and pack up time is too long. I've been reaearching and the Blackwolf Turbo 300 seems like it would be great. For overnight it's very fast set up with just the standard fly and for longer stays the addition of the deluxe fly with screen room and side and front panels would make it the size we want.
Armed with is information and credit card at the ready we headed to the camping store. We looked at the display tent (Turbo 300 with basic fly), had a go at collapsing it and setting it up and it was great. But before I was going to hand oover +$1800 for a tent I wanted to see it completely erected and this is where the wheels came off. The store din't have a deluxe fly and the associated extras on display. I rang all the camping places I know of in Perth and no one has them on display. So I made the sales guys drag one out and set it all up. The deluxe Fly and screen room went on with no fuss. But the side and front panels were another story. The fitting of the panels seemed very clumsy, flimsy and it was hard to believe that were even desinged for that tent. Considering how well thought out and made the rest of the tent is I'm thinking that maybe we and guys in the store had the fitting all wrong.
Is there anyone out there who has experience with the deluxe fly and side/front panels? Are they weather proof?

Faced exactly the same situation, but finished in totally different way. I have got Coleman Epsilon 2 which look like a swag, but without mattress. I recon that even if tent itself fast enough to setup and put down, having it big ultimately means to spend more time to put stuff inside and take it out (and therefore unpack and pack it!). In another word I recon that tent itself is not such a big time consumer like all other stuff. And plus having such small and portable (2.6kg including everything!) tent is great for hiking. Plus I have not throw away my big tent either.

I've got a Turbo 240 & am also considering getting the side & front panels for longer stays in one spot. The black wolf site has the pitching instructions at http://www.blackwolf.com.au/turbo/deluxe-fly-pitching/ which does seem to indicate its a fiddly process. I wonder how the front panel clips onto the frame when the side panels are already wrapped around & clipped on first??
Anyway, I'm also interested in anybodys actual experience in installing the panels

PS: Sherrys Camping online store (www.tentstore.com.au) has the best prices that i could find even after including postage. But only marginally cheaper than Aussie Disposals.

We bought a turbo 240 plus Fly last year because we were sick of towing the camper trailer, but i wanted a tent that was as quick to erect as the camper trailer was, we can erect the tent in 5 minutes easy and the fly goes on nearly as quick depending on what setup you want eg; no sides or all 3 sides, once you have done ita couple of times its easy.
Its been in all sorts of weather and its been teriffic best tent on the market, not the cheapest but you get what you pay for.

Drew,

No direct replies to the question of side/front panel erection.
Though I did ask the same questions on another forum and someone who has the full set up is going to take some photos next time they put the tent up ( a couple of weeks).
There is the link.
