We have just found out that the Murray is closed for fishing from Yarrawonga to Tocumwal Sep to Nov, so have had to change preferences for our
camping trip end of month (Sept07).
Do you have any suggestions on nice
camping spots along the Murray, with sandy beaches somewhere close to but west of the Newell Hwy bridge, out of Tocumwal.
Is it better to
camp on the NSW or Vic side?
We prefer to hear the sounds of the forest and river rather than motor bikes, so if we have to drive in further, thats fine.
We are self sufficient and always leave the area as we found it, void of rubbish etc.
Cheers T & T

Tina G,
We were there about a year ago. If you travel west from Tocumwal along River Road, then turn off it at the first opportunity and head south towards the river (staying in NSW) you will find plenty of good campsites with good beaches, plenty of firewood and not busy, except probably during school holidays. Its
state forest so
camping is OK and no indication that fires are not allowed. Just explore around a bit until you find a site that suits - some of the better ones that we found were somewhat west of Tocumwal.
Enjoy your trip,
Val

Goulburn-Murray
Water authority is playing with the
water levels in an attempt to get the Hume up a bit and this in turn has meant
water levels around Yarrawonga are way down at the moment, Mulwala is 65% instead of it's normal 95%. The river levels down of the weir have been affected as
well. The Vic side will still have
water in the Murray but it will be down as
well however I suspect the Vic side would be the go..
