I was camped at Drysdale River Station early this year.

There was a Troopie with it's bonnet up and the front hubs pulled apart. The two young blokes, from Warnbro, were in the middle of trying to put the vehicle back together but were short swivel hub bearings and shims.

After a chat I said that I had a set of bearings and shims that should fit.

How much do you want for them was the next question I was asked, and not knowing, I said to send me a new set when they arrived home.
I left them with my home address and sure enough a package arrived home before I did containing the replacement bearings.

Thanks Adam you are true to your word.

Good story and lucky for the boys that you had them. Why do you carry spare swivel bearings an shims? I have never thought to carry them for my 80 series and not something I thought would fail unless not properly greased and adjusted.

Doug,

It was lucky that I had them with me. I had put a box of wheel bearings and seals in at the last minute and the swivel hub bearings and axle seals were in the box.

The reason that the bearings were gone is that they hit a big pot hole on the passenger side. This had so much impact that the main leaf spring was bent and the swivel bearings collapsed.

They limped back to Drysdale River Station to fix the vehicle and that is where I met them.

I was asked by one of the convey members that was travelling with me, What are you going to do if I need the bearings for my vehicle? I just so happen to have two sets with me.

Thanks Wayne,
I Guess that is an extra spare that goes into my bus. Incidentally I have an 80 series axel apart at the moment and while I understand how to set up the pre load how do you ensure that the inner axle is centred in the seal?

Agree with comments above!

Great to see that integrity can still mean something in our warped society.

Goodonya Wayne. You are the real hero here as you gave these boys what they needed not really knowing if they would send you the parts as they said they would. And, yes, it is nice to hear that they also sent you the goods as they said they would. A good Australian story all round.
