I'm on the brink of purchasing an imported 1994 Hiace "Super Custom Limited" Hiace Van. Its a full time 4WD vehicle...my understanding is this equates basically to a All-Wheel Drive or "softroader".
Would this be as capable as say a Toyota Rav4, Subaru Forrester or Nissan XTrail? I know its a van but I'm trying to understand its 4WD limitations and its hard to find information on the net.
Thanks.

I wonder if the running gear is the same as the GLS Toyota
Tarago that they sold here in Australia around the same time. We didnt see alot of them pass through the dealer ship I worked at but for memory started to sell around 1993. In regards to capability I would say along the lines of the RAV 4 ?? Regards steve M

Here in NZ I owned a 1994 Hiace 4WD 3litre Turbo Diesel LWB van for six faultless years and converted to a camper. It had
over 240000km on the clock. Great for boat towing and launching on beaches.
4WD performance is great but
mine had no low ratio and ground clearance can be an issue. .
I have even pulled the occasional "serious 4WDer" out of the mud/sand.
Have replaced with a newer 1998 auto model.
Your model sells for around $11000 here.
Have fun.

Thanks for the info.
How did you find fuel economy?
Mine will be 80% city/20% highway-country driving.
