We got two new Next G handsets (Motorola V6) at Christmas last year.
Coverage not as good as CDMA as has been discussed numerous times.

BUT we were confidently expecting it to get progressive better. (that's what the nice man at Telstra said) so felt we could live with that

So now over a three week period it's worse and worse. Gold Coast last week failed calls, drop outs etc etc.
Melbourne this week same story.
Seems to me it's worse in built-up areas.

Took me six goes to ring Telsta to complain, after 45 minutes on the phone I was advised that there is no problem that they are aware of ( or will admit to)

So what gives, with about 5 months to go with CDMA and most likely a late rush to convert to Next G is the retched thing going to crash totally?

Where abouts in Melbourne were you, GT?

I live in the eastern suburbs, and made the switch to NextG about four months ago. The service has been good to me, and the data download speeds are stunning...

Suggest you keep complaining to Telstra. You could also try the "whirlpool.com.au" site, as this is where the -core 'cell phone junkies hang out. If there is something going on, they will know about it.

Good luck!!!

George

Thanks for the whirl pool tip George I'd forgotten about that.

I was in Victoria Parade East Melb and also in Fairfiield.

What I noticed was that with the phone sitting still on a table it goes from 5 bars to none and than back again several times over.

GT
just a thought. have u installed, next G, sim cards in the phone.
we purchased 4 x samsung A701's. had a problem with 2 of them, re reception, until we discovered u need, next G, sim cards, these are different from the CDMA & Digital ones.
taken back to the dealer, who replaced sim cards, now no problem with reception.
cheers Tom

If youy find any areas where NextG is worse than CDMA, tell Telstra about it via this website. They are determined to fix any blackspots before they have to prove nextG is better than CDMA.

Hi Guys,
Im new to the forum - i was trying to find stuff on the new klugers and saw this problem you are having with wcdma.
Ive played around with the nextg network a fair bit and i think its fantastic, its one of the technological areas where australia really leads the world and are paving the way for the future. The new nextg network should and will be better than the outgoing cdma network and the suggestion of letting telstra know where your problem coverage spots are is the best thing you can do. They will look into it and see how the coverage compares to the old cdma, and if its not right they will fix it. One thing to consider though, there may be an isssue with the handsets and you have to compare like handsets. The v is a nice unit but the receiver may not be as good as other models. for example the v may have a reasonable receiver/antenna, but the old cdma handset you are comparing it to may have a fantastic receiver/antenna. So its important that you get the right handset for the area of coverage it will be used in. At the moment the handset that gives the best coverage is LG-TU500/550 if you get a hold of one of these and do the comparison you might find you will be pleasantly suprised. i know theyre not as flash as the v but it has a better chance of giving the coverage you need. The best thing to do is talk to the telstra shop in your area and they should have a pretty good idea of which will be the best handset.
