Hi there forumites, have now done our 1st year in a Geist XK660 travelling over 4 states towing with a Landrover Discovery TDV6 and I wanted to let you all know how it is holding up on our roads.
Well I have to say so far it is wonderful. It tows like a dream, you dont even know it is there behind. We have been in some roughish
places where we free camped, off road, and just taken gently along, the Geist performs excellently. My husband will take it in the tightest
places and it has an excellent turn and the fuel economy, fully laden to its maximum and with a fully laden car (literally up to the roof) was exceptional we felt. We have had a couple of little issues with drainage pipes but all have been dealt with promptly with no hassles. The towing system is excellent and easy to set up and it is luxury on
wheels with every convenience you could wish for. It takes us only half the time to be on the road compared to our fellow travellers and we havent found a place we couldnt get into yet, even going into the tight Mayfield
campsite in Tassie with no problems.

Hi redmow, glad to see you enjoy the Geist. We have the 495 as we have to little ones in tow and have had a couple of trips with ours. Just setting up our New Prado, but felt it did tow like a dream with the previous Honda MDX. Good to know that it holds up
well, looking at doing the red centre early next year. Let me know if you have any tips or tricks keep. Keep us informed.

well done redmow and it's good that you're so happy. mind you 1 year of towing is hardly a test so brace yourself for problems after a few years. both the van and the disco have rather chequered histories in the longevity and reliability departments! if structural and or mechanical problems start to surface in a few years, I'd bail out. they're not quite up to a cruiser and evernew combo for example.

Hi Redmow and others,
I'm not trying to hi jack the thread, but why is it that whenever anyone mentions Landrover or Discovery there is always some one who jumps in with a comment about their alleged unreliability or immediately says "Go to aulro" as if Disco owners are not needed here on this
forum, regardless of the topic under discussion.
Most of us Disco owners are happy with our choice of transport, and we too gain valuable information from this
forum.
That's my little "bitch" for today, feel better for it too.
Glad that you, Redmow, are happy with your choice of van and tow unit
After all that IS all that matters.

What might the "chequered history" of this van be? Specific examples, please. Or is it just hearsay?
A substantial number of Oz brands have problems too.
Good luck with your Geist, Redmow! (Don't mention the war!) ;-)

I too would like specifics on any problems with Geist vans - is it on older models or new ones and what were details, was it because of being on poor roads, bad service, quality fittings etc? I would appreciate all info I can get, as you say it is only early days.
