Hi Stephen
we've been with TCIS for about 2 years have cars, camper and
camping gear insured with them and have not had a hassle at all. Very easy to deal with no complaints here.

But have you made a claim? What was that experience like. Setting up a policy and paying premiums is always a no brainer.
I've been making enquiries with TCIS about insurance. But I too am concerned about dealing with a broker and the subsequent service by the actual insurer.

No haven't made a claim, though have dealt with other brokers and have not had any issues. As our vehicle is highly modified, we were unable to get insurance via normal co's such as AAMI or RACV but were able to get a policy through TCIS.

Stephen,
I am looking into the same thing, just tried AAMI and they wont insure my next project for what it is worth, but they want to insure it for over $20k less.
I am now a TCIS convert, couldn't be bothered with any of the rest.

I’m also a TCIS ‘convert’ although it should be pointed out that TCIS is an insurance broker, not an insurer. They only arrange policies, whether a claim is met is dependent on the actual insurer.
When I reconditioned ‘The Landy’ I spoke with them about getting reasonable cover versus what I could obtain elsewhere. They did this and sourced a policy for me without too much fuss. Although, I also appreciate that mainstream insurers are not necessarily geared to offer the sort of cover I wanted on an older vehicle, regardless of the fact it had been rebuilt.
Give TCIS a go.

Hi Stephen.
Have been dealing with TCIS for years & recently insured my new trailer through CGU.
Touch wood, I haven't lodged a claim with them.
Regards.

Same experience here. They come up with the policy offerings (off-road, camper,
camping gear etc) and then lay them off to actual insurance companies. TCIS are a broker.
Have not had any claims (apart from a windscreen) but they are very easy to deal with. Done all my dealings by email and then they post out paperwork. Too easy. Prices also very competitive with the mainstream majors.
You do however have to be a member of a registered 4WD club anywhere in australia that is affiliated with the national association of 4WD clubs in order to benefit from a policy.

The Yarra Valley four wheel drive club has recently folded. The club was insured with TCIS for public liability insurance. After an unfortunate accident several years ago we needed to make a claim with the TCIS, they reneged on the claim stating that they had not covered us for the event even though we had paid our fees etc. Several years later and over $50,000 of the clubs money on solicitors the club has now folded. We have all switched to affinity insurance which seem really good so far.

one of our members continues because he wants to be able to keep tcis insurance on his truck and camper. he now lives 1200km from meetings.
all clubs affiliated with the australian 4x4 association must have public liability insurance. most i think do it through the brokers tcis. the conditions of the policy list exclusions including timed events, any form of race. and you must contact them for coverage on any other form of competition for approval.
i don't know your situation but we all know how generous insurance companies are.
i also know that having club public liability insurance has enabled our members to access areas private and public because we have coverage.
cheers peter

You'd need to find out who the actual insurance company is that will be insuring your gear and then make enquiries about that company's claims payout history. The broker only collects the premium from you and passes it to the insurance company (for a fee). In the event of a claim the broker will not be the one deciding whether to pay you or not. They should assist you with the claims process but the final say rests with the insurance company.
If someone hasn't made a claim then chances are that they'll be happy with what they have. The crunch comes at claim time.

Had two claims over the past 4 years. They were great to deal with and were very helpful. Go with them.
