I am looking to buy an 02 Jackaroo Turbo Diesel. Does anybody have any feedback good/bad? This will be m first 4wd and plan to do only short trips on moderate to good tracks.

No reason why not.
Just make sure it's had all the recalls done, after which it should be a great unit.

Thanks yes the one we are looking at has had the recalls done on it. Just a little nervous reading some of the feedback on the Diesel engine.

As far as I know, there are are two categories of issues with the engine - the first is the injectors which have been fixed by the recall(s)
The second is caused by using incorrect oil grade (too thick) in the engine. This may have contributed to the first problem, since the injectors are oil actuated.
When these two conditions don't exist, you have an engine which is not prone to any particular problems, and is powerful and economical.
On top of that you have one of the best built 4WDs available.

Thanks for the thread Kev. Does seem to be a bit of interest out there. I know the prices have come down quite low so maybe that is why.

As mentioned previously, as long as the recalls have been done and they have been serviced properly, no probs what soever. A great vehicle, many of my friends have them. They are pretty particular regarding the servicing. It may take some time to find someone that actually knows what they are doing with them when servicing.
Nice vehicle, considered trading the rodoe in for one, but unfortunately due to the drop in value of the rodeo, ill lose too much money on what it is actually owed.
Good luck, and make sure you dont buy gecko's ;)

shop that repair them in aust. and the holden dealers are not much better, spend your money on a more common vehicle
