Hi All
I have had an annoying problem with my GQ.
The handbrake light would come on every time I went around a right hand corner and go off when going straight or turning left.It has been driving me insane. My son pulled the console out and checked the switch and connections and all was fine. I then checked the archives and there was a mention of topping up the brake fluid which i did and all is fine. Can someone tell me if the handbrake is hydraulic which i dont think it is or does the handbrake and the fluid low level share the same light.
Thanks
Steve

Steve,
I had the same problem with the Triton a few months ago (probably the post you read). They do share a warning light, fixed
mine by replacing the brake fluid. It was due for replacement anyway.
Cheers Kev

Steve I would say that the wire fron the hand brake switch is earthing out against a bracket or body causing the warning light to come on.
This may be caused by someone disturbing / moving the wire or the loom when something has been installed or removed.
We see some strange things like people replacing screws and the replacement was longer then the original and has pierced the loom causing a short or earthing out.
Another one is people running cables close to some steering column and when the turn a left hand corner there radio turns off due to the power cable being pulled away from a spring loaded glass fuse holder.
When I get to work tomorrow morning I'll have a look at the wiring diagram and tel you what could be happening or what else runs of the curcuit.
Regards Richard

Opps! sorry guy I read the original post wrong, I thought it said you had checked the brake fluid and it was OK and the light still came on..........
Stupid me, I should read the post correctly.
The handbrake is mechanical with cable.
I will still look at the curcuit tomorrow for you.

My son's Jackeroo recently had the same, and the light was dual purpose, hand brake and low fluid.
I would be pretty confident that your Nissan is the same, so don't worry be happy.

Son's GQ had the same problem. Turned out one of his brake cylinders was stuffed. Although the brake fluid was leaking only slowly, on close inspection it was certainly leaking.
Buggered if I know what it had to do with the hand brake light, but when cylinder was fixed, so was hand brake light.

Hmmm, my last GQ did this and it was just a top up to fix it. Maybe as suggested above get the fluid changed. The handbrake is cable, and yes they do share the same light.

Hello Steve, one side of the barke warning light goes to the meter fuse from the ignition relay and the other side of the brake light goes to a "T"
junction, one side of the "T" goes to the brake fluid switch on you master cylinder resivour and the other side of the "T" goes to your hand brake switch. This wire is brown in colour
The other side of the switches go to earth.

Steve,
If your brake pads are worn down the fluid level will drop accordingly. Therefore when cornering the fluid moves away from the low level sensor causing the light to come on. Check how much brake pad is left before just topping up. This happened to me once in my 80 series going up a steep
hill. When I checked the front pads they were very low but not to the point where the low pad scrapers kickin and start squealing. With new pads front and rear the fluid should be at the MAX mark. Then by monitoring the fluid level you have a good idea of the state of brake pads......unless there is a leak in the hydraulic system.
