Question in a similar vein to one I asked a few days ago, but with a twist - is anyone using Oziexplorer or similar on an Apple Macbook or Macbook Pro laptop, using Parallels or another Windows VM? Are you able to get connectivity with your GPS for moving maps, and if so, what GPS are you using?
Not keen on buying a personal Windows laptop - have made the switch to Mac a few months ago, but I haven't seen any "moving maps" GPS software for them yet. Was thinking however that something like Parallels or VM Fusion would allow me to use the Wnidows version of something like Oziexplorer.
Or are there Mac OS programs out there?
cheers

Hello - mate of
mine runs OziExplorer on Mac...but dont think he bothers with moving map so cant help you there (plus I dont know what emulator he uses).
Anyway there are some Mac GPS programs. Here is one that looks the goods..
MACGPS
..main issue may be getting ready made, calibrated maps of Australia easily.
Cheers

Thanks - dunno how I missed that one! Looks like it takes raster maps too, so should be able to use most mapsets that Oziexplorer would use. Must investigate!

Hiya
Have just purchased Oziexplore, and using it on my Macs (Mac Pro & MacBook Pro), using Parallels - works great. But, I haven't tried any maps yet, had to get a device to connect the Serial interface on the GPS to the USB interface on the MAC. Have been mainly trying out the software that come with the Garmin Etrex legend, and it all works fine, are am very confident that the Ozieexplorer software/hardware combination will work.
With Parallels having the ability for application windows to act like Mac windows in the operating system is great, it makes it all work so smoothly as if it was working on a Windows machine.
Hope this helps
Andrew

As a recent convert to the mac, i am now faced with the same challenges you have. I also own a nuvi 660 if you have a garmin go to there website and look for mac in updates and downloads.
At this point in time all i can do is convert T4A and Shonky maps so i can use them on the nuvi. (previously downloaded to PC)
Mapsource is not yet available on the mac so you don't get all the features(
well none zip nada)
I think i might have a close look at the US site that was posted on here for you. If you have any luck with software keep us in
the loop.
If you need to run windows software wait for the new OS it is designed by mac. I think it will cost about $200.
Regards
Stephen
