Hi,
we will be off to the Simpson on the 4th of Oct. and had planned to just take the french line from
Birdsville accross but we are now interested to hear from anyone that has traveled the Knolls Track / WAA line in the last 3 month and can advise us on conditions.
Thanks

Hi Guys, I have just returned from crossing the Simpson Yesterday! I travelled down the Knolls onto the WAA from Poppel Corner last Tuesday! i can report on the following
French Line from Poppel to Knolls took 3 Hours to travel 35km
Knolls Track down to WAA took 2 Hours to travel 40km
From there is gets easier !
I hope this Helps

Hi Dale,
is it worth doing the Knoll track/WAA line , anything interesting to see?
We did the French line 4 years ago and are looking to see something different if worthwhile.
Thanks

If you have travelled the French Line from start to finish before i think it is worthwhile to see a change of scenery and driving conditions are very different! Travelling south down the Knoll you will run with the dunes crossing them sometimes running along the top! then WAA the dunes are smaller you a travel at 60km between them. You will see more camels down south and dingos!

Dale

We also came across a heap of scorpions on the WAA line in May this year. That was great.

Hi Mr Wolf,
WAA line was a good drive with little trafic in July when we did it. Knolls track was rough but interesting as it travels along dune crest a lot of the time but at times this limits the view as there is a fair bit of scrub in this part of the SD.
Hope this helps
Vince

They are all just bumpy desert tracks.
The French Line is the worst with scalloped out dune faces on the west side of the dunes. Did the WAA line recently from
Erabena Track to where it joins the French Line again. There are a few serious holes on the top of some of the dunes and it is best to take the by-pass tracks. I was towing a trailer and one dune stopped me. So I found an alternative way over.
Cheers

East to west was the way to go last month. Very scolloped out on the west side of the dunes but no problem when going down
hill on that side. I also saw scorpions and followed heaps of their tracks when walking along the track in the morning near Poepple. More
grey sand then red on the WAA. A few short bumpy bits when passing over gypcrete areas going down the Knolls track but thats only a few minutes here and there. If you are looking for the drill pipe for the old
Mokari oil well it's only about 50 meters off the WAA line, and on the left as you drive up the side track (near a dead camel), a lot of people drive right past and don't see it.
Freeth Junction to Dalhousie is very corugated and the
Spring Creek Delta by-pass track was being used as the main track was closed.
