Willem
So I always have a mate or two to do a small welding job for me...until now......one mate is away and the other isn't home most of the time.
I bought this Weldmate Mig welder on special and took it home. Now I did a weldinbg course at Tafe when I was a younger fella but have forgotten mnost of the technique.
Anyway, I went out and bought some steel for my new trailer canopy frame and nearly fainted when I saw the price. Much trial and error and the odd fire along the way(don't weld near foam...lol) has the canopy frame up and fitted. Hhhmmmm....not quite straight,eh? Better make a cut here...er...no maybe there...what the hell...just weld it all back together again. More trial and error. Plenty of errors in fact. Can't seem to weld where I aim the nozzle. Do perfect welds in the wrong place.....LOL
Anyway job done and canopy cover being made by local materials fella. Ahhh better weld the
gate while I am at it and the ornamental
windmill............anybody want anything welded??...LOL
Cheers

All this welding stuff, just like soldering ...NOT.
Son is a boilermaker and has just finished his international welding codes....whatever that means LOL
All I know is that he'll work his tail off for the right money but never do anything when he's home. Might have to take some tips off Willem if I ever want to weld anything :))))

Sounds like you need an auto darkening lense Willem. I have a couple of spares that will fit straight into a normal helmet, you can have one if you like.
At least then you will have perfect welds in the right place lol
Cheers Luke

I have one! It is brilliant but maybe there is a distortion in the glass, hence the missed welds...lol

HaHaHA, So if we hear about a canopy drifting around in space, then we will know the" Willem welding", might not have been so sucessfull!!....lol.
PS. From what i have experienced, you do have to make sure the weld is penetrating, with those light migs, not just laying the weld on top.
Cheers Axle.

Hi Willem,
Hope Im not telling you how to suck eggs, but, I recently up graded my gasless mig and for starters had to muck around with heat settings and wire speed to get to know the welder.
Once done shes a beaut.
Different ways of laying a weld, but, always try to stick with the usual technique of laying a weld ahead of the gun rather than behind it.
Hope that makes some sense!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers mate.
Lionel.

It means push
the tip instead of pulling, the only thing you should be pulling is a beer can tab to open it.

G'day Steve
Its cold and blustery here today and I am wishing I was somewhere else....lol
Necessity is the mother of invention!!! One cannot rely on 'other' to help some of the time so you have to go it alone and learn the hard way...lol
Cheers

I have a question for you Willem
up the pistol club over the weekend cutting target frames with the wood saw on the outside wooden table there was an error of judgement made....
Q. does your welder weld wood and are you qualified to do it?
The table is a little shorter on one corner....

Dear Blue-eyes
You need to get away from that pistol club and get out more.
Uh-Oh I forgot, its Wednesday...or is it raining there as
well.
With wood you have to keep on sawing till you get the right dimensions.....LOL
