Has anyone had a problem with the stereo illumination on their radio fading in & out. Function, sound & dials etc still work well but I cant tell what station it is on. My guess is that it maybe a dry electrical joint as it comes on intermittently or when hit with the heal of your hand on hte actual radio.

Any suggestions has to how to remedy ???

I have exactly the same problem with mine. It's getting to the stage where the "giving it a good whack" trick doesn't work.

Will be interested to see if anyone has found a fix.

I was thinking of replacing with an after market unit.

Cheers

Cam, Trevor

I fitted a Pioneer unit in the current GU and it's way better that before. Was able to fit the GME UHF under it so it's out of the way.

It's nice having the UHF in the dash where you can see it.

I replaced the OE Nissan unit in the GQwith a Kenwood unit. It improved the sound by miles. When I bought the GU I swapped the Kenwood into the GU and love it.MIne is a bit dated and I would like to be able to plug in the flash drive but apart from that it is the way to go.

I have same problem. I thought I was alone but it seems I have a lot of mates with the same problem. I leave it on the local abc all the time but it is a problem away from home.,or playing a cd. The worst part is that is intermittent. It is useless playing a cd on all but the smoothest road. Great in a 4wd. It jumps {my wifes word} If you sort it out please post the solution here.

Solution: Remove Plastic shroud covering centre area of dash using a screw driver covered with a cloth to protect the dash.

once removed, remove the 4 retaining bolts holding the mounting frame for the stereo in place.

Disconnect the wiring and antenna and undo 4 screws to remove radio from the frame.

Place factory stereo in bin and replace with after market unit, repeating the above steps in reversal to install.
