I am a new member that is looking to invest in an GPS for my 4wd.
I have heard differing opinions with so much confusion.
Seeking some advice.
Something that is compatible with a laptop and a program called MAPINFO.
Thanks

I purchased a Garmin 276C several months ago and I have been really impressed - purchased it from the
Johnny Appleseed GPS web site - not sure about Mapinfo

Hi Drew,
what do you want your GPS to do.
Do you what to add Maps or just have an arrow
Do you want voice guidance or just beep when making a turn.
Everything is compatible with a laptop.
I've never heard of Mapinfo
Maybe Mapsend, Maptech or Mapsource

Skippy
MapInfo has been a pioneer in bringing location intelligence to leading companies and government agencies worldwide for years. This has been accomplished through a comprehensive offering including software, data, and
services, applied through vertical expertise.
This is not some software you add to a GPS
MAPINFO

One point to consider is "Can I punch in some co-ordinates by hand or do I need a computer to talk to my gps?" Nothing more frustrating then to have to alter your trip plans but can't update the gps as you are a thousand km from your computer at home !

Drew
if your in
Melbourne, pop on down to the Johnny Appleseed GPS
shop at 92 St. Kilda Road, St. Kilda and explain what you want and that your new to GPS and they will give you all the help and advice needed , or go to the website and have a browsw over the Garmin products, I think a Nuvi 300 or 310 would be a good starter unit, but remember this, if you get a cheaper unit other than Garmin or Magellan and then one day you will see someone with a Garmin or Magellan you will wish you had bought one in the first place.
Johnny Appleseed GPS
I hope this puts you on the right path
