Going through the motions of prepping the Datto for upcoming trips, I saw that the front brake pads needed replacing. The brake rotor is also wortn a tad and so this has to be machined. Soooooo.....the front wheel bearings have to come out to get topthe rotor and since they have been there for the past 346,000km they better be replaced as
well. Datto goes in to the mechanic tomorrow.
One thing leads to another.......sheeesh!!!!

Willem,it becomes a near never ending story once you start doesn't it.Lots of $$$$$$$$$$$'s but should be good for a lot more Kssssss.

Came across a heavily laden datto 2wd between Dubbo and
Nyngan with one wheel fallen off.
No rellies in that area ?

I know what you mean,
Was rotating the tyres the other day, and thought what's that grease splattered over the front
wheels - yep, the CV boots have pinholes.
Now these are Mecatech boots, supposedly the best available. The damn things have done 18 months and maybe 22,000ks, whereas the original Isuzu ones only lasted 8 years and 120,000ks.

well, try to ring the Mecatech dude here in
Melbourne, he's gone AWOL, so open a correspondence with a guy in the UK to claim on the "lifetime" warranty.
After a bit of a struggle, he agreed to send me some new ones (of the 2 types, I appear to have paid for the dearer ones and been supplied with the cheaper ones which are too small for the Jack, although they went on OK). You must
So now I have turned a tyre rotation into a CV replacement, plus new wheel bearings & seals, plus disc machining - bugger !
That's a greasy job. I think I might try using those nifty rubber gloves to see if I can keep the stuff out of my cracked old skin....

Those gloves are great, and now that I have a large pack in the garage I use them for lots of little jobs.
They are especially handy if you're doing a job this arvo and going out tonight. No more dirlty cracked fingers in the finger food!!!

Rotors…. I have learnt my lesson in hard way. The same scenario and I have decided to machine rotors. After that my brakes became awful – truck start to shake worst then on corrugated road. Have to dismantle everything again and put new rotors. With machining about 20 bucks or so and new rotors from DBA (much thicker and heavier then OEM!) about 100 bucks I personally fail to see much reasons to machine them. 80 bucks preside to disassemble whole swivel hub in 6 month while new would service you for another 200K? My times worth more.

Yep...after measuring the thickness of the rotors I decided to get new ones from DBA. So the Datto is staying in overnight waiting for them to arrive. Might as
well do the whole job properly and get another 300.000 out of them and the bearings :-).
