Hi All
Had to cut short the 12 month trip - spent the best part of 8 months mostly in WA north and interior. Tented travel plus overnights in Troopy. Zero failures but much service difficulties - Message - check everything!

Stunning trip. Travelled in to Kimberley as the roads opened after the wet. This creates some probs and delays waiting for various parts to open -but you get to do deep river crossings, very few travellers, no need to book anything, flies, heat, and the locals have time to talk before the winter onslaught of tourists.

Next time in WA we'll 'do it' even better. Marvellous what a few months can do to whet the appetite for this most beautiful country.
Mod - Troopy needs rear raised to beat the washouts

Have a look at the pics

G'day Chris. Great pics, especially the bungles and hanging rock. It'll be hard to go back to the grind after a trip like that.

Thanks Warren

The grind is not nice! Will be looking for a new place to live somewhere in NSW (grimace) in 2008. Then will push forward a couple of "inventions" that I was testing out there.

Envy you guys being so close to so much and in land of opportunity!! Have some reservations about the degree of mining activity and its local consequences (eg housing prices for local communities)

Cheers

Chris

HI Laura

If you get another version of this ---- I looged out in the middle of reply. Here we go again.

20,000 service - first big one earned me damaged hub surfaces all whee;s due to hard faced hammer being liberally applied. Radiator cap left off, one hub hot, several wheels studs needing replacement due to damage. All this discovered over weeks and in the bush. So you carry the problems and worry somewhat. The bearing temp meant a change in plans to get it checked. One wheel also odd - not new like the others and no way of knowing when and prob happened. Upshot is new car that looks like it has had engine overheating prob and hubs that look like a handyman or bush mechanic has had a go. Several other matters.

Check everything before you drive away.

On CSR - recommend the Rudall NP side trip. You can get into as much remoteness as you desire out there. Try the track to Christie Crossing past Hanging Rock and what's left of the rabbit proof fence. Desert Queen is just beautiful - you can swim the baths or traverse over the cliff tops.

On CSR be aware that Citroen are planning a very large assault on it in 2008. The recce party told me they expected upwards of 100 people to travel in 2CVs and support vehicles. I suspect this will place great pressure on camping spots - wood, access and cleanliness. Still they may have all this under control.

Absolutely beautiful/

Peace and smiles

Chris

Beautiful photos Chris, well done.

Sounds like you needed some air bags on the rear to help with the saggy bum syndrome.

You're spot on John.

That's a definite upgradefor the next serious trip. I saw an ad the other day for black bags - about $500 to supply full kit complete with simple instructions. (Being ex fitter it'll have to be simple before I'll get under the car.)

That's a whole lot of Troopy on your site!

Peace and smiles
