Morning all,

Have just purchased a supercharger off a 2L toyota crown which is step 1 obviously of this project. We have done it before to GQ TD42 patrols and I have the same motor in mine being a 1999.

What I intend to to for all of those TD42 owners is maybe post a few of the things we do and record some results of pre and post dynos etc. Initial cost of the supercharger was $450.00. They run around 6-8 psi max and are mainly for chugging around the tracks and good torque down low for towing.

Will keep you all posted as we go along.

Cheers all,

Vicar.

The SC14 is a rootes based supercharger which has an outlet volume of about 1420cc per revolution. We pull all the original pulleys off, my father in law being the big mover and shaker in all of this as he owns the metal lathe, milling machine blah blah blah...basically the dream shed and he fabricates all the brackets, pulleys and pipe work we need.

I'm thinking of doing a step by step and keeping the financials on it. We estimate around 1k from woe to go...

Well you have my interest. If you will consider taking it 1 step further, SC + TC. In my mind the best (technically) way to extract the most hp/torq from a motor (for a given capacity, & fuel consumption). ie SC provides torq from low rpm, TC is most efficient at high(ish) rpm.
Don't mind me! Seriously interested in the technical details. Shout it from the pulpit!

I am sure you already know about the VW TSI engine that does just that, with all the glitches solved.

The 1.4 litre is available in the Golf GT at present, and will soon find its way into other models.

Don't know what the insurance companies will make of it, they seem to dislike forced induction of any kind on petrol engines, and this has both at once!

Hi vudu and gerhard,

Yeah, my brother in law is actually doing that as we speak, he has the gu turbo non intercooled but has all the work done, turbo boost, dump pipe 3 inch system mandrell, stage 2 diesel gas blah blah. Going to put the sc on for down low. Once the 4.2 is rolling it's ok, but as long as it's boosting 2000rpm and below, im happy.

125kw / 250nm @ 7.7l/100. So I could replace the 4.7 in the LC with a 2.8 "V8" for 250kw / 500nm for 10l/100? Makes a turbo diesel seem prehistoric....again.

Sounds good, a V8 TSI. I speculated on another forum about VW's penchant for making "v" and "W" formation engines, as in the Veyron.

Make mine a 5.6 litre W16 consisting of four of these 1.4 TSI babies, and I'll be happy with 500kw, 1000nm

Now, what gearbox do we have for that? How about a 2 speed powerglide - should be strong enough, and 2 ratios ought to be plenty for that amount of grunt :)

Ahh music to my ears a Nissan needing a Toyota Supercharger to give it more power :-))))

Seriously though, sounds like a good project and one I'll watch with interest because I always wanted to SC the 1 HZ but couldn't afford it.

One main benifiet of the SC is that if for some reason the SC fails then you can disconnest the belts and the motor will still run, whereas with a turbo - if it packs in you stop, otherwise you will do more damage.

Yeah yeah, sometimes you just have to lower your standards... ;-)

It will be interesting, I'm hoping for a good 30% gain. I want to do the diesel gas too while the rebate is in place, might as well get something off johnny.

And your right karl, that's what I love about the blowers and cheap as chips to replace with minimal fuss. I'm going to buy another and keep it in the shed...

Why bother going to all that trouble with doing all that to a diesel, start with a TB42 at double (ok, maybe a slight exhageration) your end result right thru the rev range with the same amount of work.
Good luck with it, will be interested in the results.

Cheers
