Suggest that you check with Visitor Information Centre, 20 O'Callaghan Parade, Horsham 3402; tourism@hrcc.vic.gov.au; Telephone 03 5382 1832; Freecall 1800 633 218 ...
Good luck with your travels.

Hi

Grampians looking reasonable at the moment and recovering from fire. Good camping spot is in the middle at Boreang, good facilities and reasonably quite usually though you might get a bit of school holiday traffic. If you stick to the dirt roads it frightens most of the people away.Halls Gap will be crowded.

Not sure if the 4wd roads will be open, they are usually closed until Oct, check with Park Victoria in Horsham or Halls gap, people on the phone service usually have no idea. if Open, a good track is to go in off the Horsham road at Buandik and over the Gaot track then down the Victoria Range Rd. good $WD track but not for camper trailers.

A lot of the track are still closed after the fires, may never open?

Plent of good walks at this time of year. One of the best IMHO is from Buandik to a big cave. Its not signposted but starts just before the Buandik camping ground, heading about due east into the bush. After about 200 m a good track will be obvious, just follow it for a couple of k's. Bit rough but good cos no crowds. Now don't tell anyone I told you!!

Most of the aboriginal shelters are no longer marked on new maps. If you can get hold of the North and South Grampians Map sheets that will show you where to go.

Anotehr good spot is Hollow Mountain at the north end of the Grampians, camping spot ordinary but good walks. If you go in here you can drive down past the old quarry near Roses gap where the stone for Parliment house was obtained.

In my experience, the PV people don't encourage people to go off the bitumen too far and keep everyone together in a couple of camping spots. Any camps accessed off bitumen willl be very busy for the next 2 weeks.

Have fun

This may be of some help to you.In feburary I towed a caravan all over the Grampions on bitimun and gravel, did not see many road closed sighns. If you are a nervious driver you better leave your van at the first camping area.
The fires had burned every thing that was combustable from one end to the other, the birds were coming back so that the place
may look a lot better now.Great place to test your driving skills
