Gday,
Some time ago I remember coming acrsoss a thing on the internet which calculates distances between towns.
eg. you type in
Darwin in one collumn and Alice in the other and it tells you how far apart they are.
Does anyone now of something similar and know where I would find it?
Cheers
Hairy

RACQ Trip Planner
Hairy, I find this one a bit more user friendly, particularly for planning more complex trips. You can let it select the route by shortest, quickest etc. You can get it to avoid tolls or unsealed roads if you wish (if it is possible). Or you can specify the route (or part of it) yourself.

RACQ, NRMA and a number of others are exactly the same Peter. Just the colours are changed.
Mapping and planning info on them is provided ny 'NOWwhere?' under licence.

Hi there Hairy,
Just be aware that some of these sites don't always give you the shortest route. In some areas with convoluted roads like NSW, it may give you the distance via the major roads but not the shortest way there.

The NRMA site I gave above allows you to select the fastest or the shortest route. There are also tick boxes to allow you to dodge toll and gravel roads.
