I would start by lifting out the rear
seat base.
If yoiu see a removable inspection plate. perhaps held by screws, that is
the spot.
You will need most likely to remove the fuel pump from the
tank.
Make sure you have the battery disconnected, you do not need any sparks there.
I would start by purchasing a replacement filter, you do not want to go in there twice.

Thanks Col. Sounds a bit daunting for me.....I was hoping that there would be an in line filter somewhere easier to get at.

in the engine bay on the passenger side of the spring / shocker post.
it is held in by a spring clip that you can pull out to remove,
this is a carby model, if not there it will be on the frie wall where the passengers feet would be.
hope this would help

If it's anything like the filter on my daughter's Mazda 121, it will be a biggish black filter on the passenger side strut, under the bonnet. Fuel inlet is at the bottom, outlet at the top, where the pipe is likely to have a 90 degree bend for a straight run to the carby.
The buggers are not cheap, either!
