Hello all you people of expirience and wisdom....what do you all think of or had any expirience with this caravan....the salesman told me "it was designed for the Gibb River Road" however don't expect the waranty to cover such excursions??!!!....however it does look pretty neat with it's 265/70R16 wheels and tyres...as a pop top with toilet/shower and only 17'6" length and at $55k including air con and awning is it a reasonable outback purchase?...your input would be appreciated...with thanks...Phil.
And oh it comes with a tregg hitch.

Phillip

Salesman say a lot of things to get a sale.

I have done the Gibb River Road and it is a gravel road that is graded regularly and in good condition. A friend of mine works up there each year and takes his standard caravan. He has never had any problems.

Life's great and it just keeps getting better

Phillip,

I finished a court case with the same mob just a few months ago. My problem was similar to yours. The difference is that I actually ordered a Coromal "off road van". Let me quote to you Mr Brad van Hemert the CEO of Fleetwood Corporation in a phone call to me personally.
"Coromal do not make off road caravans", now ,Fleetwood is the parent company of Coromal. My exercise in the Qld court system has left me $2000 out of pocket. By the way we won our case but I would not necessarily guarantee yours. If you read the Coromal fine print you will find that you will void warranty by taking it off the bitumen.
Now I am not trying to stop you doing what your mind may be set on. But...my wife and I spent 12 months in court over a Coromal salesman and got no help from the dealership or the manufacturer. At one stage with Barrister in hand I was looking down the barrel of $12000.
So proceed with caution, another word of advice look underneath the van itself.
In my case I could see from 20 metres away that I did not have an off road van. Just a van with off road wheels.
By the way do not take my word for this just phone Coromal WA and ask them about warranty. Guarantee they will say, "but we cannot guarantee or allow for the ratbag drivers out there".
No disrespect for your comments, but let me assure you that an off road van does not a treg hitch make.

Another quote from Coromal CEO is "If you want an off road van,buy a Bushtracker". By the way we went Kedron(cheaper).

Now if you doubt me just contact me and I will back all these claims. In court if necessary, because I am still p....ed at Coromal and have advised the CEO that I will spend the rest of my life telling everyone my story.
And to finish. My comment to the salesman was....it must be able to travel roads like......"The Gibb River Road".
Having been down that road with my campertrailer Coromal would have either fallen to pieces or filled with dust.

Buyer Beware,
Best of luck
Regards
Jim

Jim...these are the very comments I have been looking for and I want to thank you very much.....but what actually went wrong with your purchase or what did not go wrong with it perhaps...was it the suspension or the wear of the tyres or the way it fell apart or etc etc.......... and what did the kedron roughly cost? regards Phil

Phillip,

Pleased to hear that JimDi got a win. But at what price.

We bought a Coromal onroad caravan. Our first. We had a warranty call booked for us by the dealer on the day we picked it up because he couldn't fix it. The problems just kept coming. Our first major trip of 3 minths was reduced to 2 because we had no plubing, no water, no air con, bedheads that were stapled to 3 mm ibreboard simply dislodged, 14mm marine ply floor panels were not joined to each other simply laid next to ach other

The dealer has tried hard but the underlying fact is that Coromal are a mass produced van. Quality Control ?.. I regard Coromals as being worth zip.

Would I buy a Coromal again. No.No No.

Phillip and SKI'er,

I doubt if I had a win. I lost 12 months of my retirement. My wife had to keep working to pay what we thought was going to be up to $20K of court costs. I had already retired.

So a year later we are down $2K.
Easy you say.Would I go near a Coromal. Not even if they gave it to me. And I do not care what model you are talking about. I have suffered the attitude of both Coromal WA and their dealers. Let me tell you the best description is "Juvenile".

The national sales manager Coromal, when asked for technical details and the vans capabilities described the van as "the ducks guts". Now this is a $65000 Coromal off road van and I had questioned its capabilities.
He could not and would not guarantee anything. His only comment re warranty was, and again I will quote,"We cannot be held responsible for all the idiots out there."

You ask what went wrong, let me tell you. I ordered a Coromal "Off road caravan", value was $65000 in 2006.
When I saw a like van I realsied that it was no more off road than my lounge chair.
When I questioned the dealer and Coromal WA on this matter, well the comments are above.
What happened then is 12 months of litigation because "they" withheld my $6500 deposit and refused to return any portion of it.
To cut a long story short we beat the s@#t out of them. They did not even bother to turn up in court nor lodge a defense. Hence the "juvenile" comment.
Now what was wrong with the van you ask? I ordered an "off road" caravan, the salesman assured me that is what I would get.
Then when I looked blow me it was not "off road".
Hence the court case to get our money back.

Now, Coromal remained silent right thru the whole court process.
So.....why the upright manner in the first place by withholding our deposit. Who knows? I go back to "Juvenile".
By the way their costs etc were as much as mine so work it out. The only real difference at the end of the day is that "I" do not have a customer base to worry about.

Now as to my new or second hand purchase. A second hand 2yr old Kedron. It is low klms, $20K less than new. Look in Trading Post and RV point and you will find what you are looking for.
Regards
JimDi

SKI er,

My costs were $2000. That is what I am out of pocket after one (1) year of legal proceedings.
Now that $2000 takes into account costs etc that we could claim against the Loganholme dealership etc.
But overall we are out $2000 cash. Not to mention one year of retirement lost. What price that, who knows?

I am lucky, I do not own a heap of whatever that I would be unhappy with. And I do not have a van that I need to flog onto some other poor bugger.

As for Coromal and their dealerships, I believe that they will remain forever silent and just keep on selling, selling.
