Coming home late last night there was signs up, more road works on the M4.
The M4 is a 3 lane express way and the speed limit is 110kph.
Now you would think that there is no way a random breath test could be set up on such a road with safety.
At night, 3 lanes of traffic all doing over 100kph and a lone police officer steps out in the middle of the road and waves a red flashing baton to stop drivers that might have had a few too many.
I don't think so.
The solution.
Use road works barriers set up to slow the traffic down, and now that one of the lanes have been blocked off, use this for breathalysing drivers who thought, like me, this is a silly time for road works. (It is a long weekend in NSW)
BTW There was no evidence of road works happening that I could see.
This was not just one police vehicle either, blue and red flashing lights lit up the night sky like Luna
Park. At least 10 vehicles at a time were lined up with an officer at every vehicle asking the driver if they have any thing to drink in the last 30 min. No waiting at this stop.
After I had passed the stop I noticed that there were no other vehicles around me, they must of all have been stopped, except me. Might have been because the vehicle behind me flashed it's blue and red lights as we approached the stop and we were waved through.
I don't have a problem with drivers been pulled over and breathalysed, and if it means going the extra mile and slow vehicles that would not have been checked on a freeway, good on them.

Excellent...their actions may have saved some Family Heart Ache.
Here we are enjoying the long weekend with safety while the Police do their best to keep it that way. Cheers.

Many Coppers are like Campers, a bit of lateral thinking to solve a 'problem'. Sounds like thay were fully aware of the need for considerable application of COMMON SENSE and road safety. The use of road works signs was very appropriate under the circumstances. Hopefully a few drunks were removed from the roads.
