We arrived home yesterday, and have been washing red dust out of everything ever since.

13 days.
3,185 kms.
Over 500 shutter clicks on the Sony.
Didn't take the genny and had plenty of power from the solar - in fact the battery was rather high most of the time.
Fine weather apart from one showery evening

We didn't take the Holland track in it's entirety, as we didn't want to scratch the F250 unduly (although it is a bit scratched now). After a particularly narrow section between Emu Rocks and the vermin fence, we chickened out of the next section, although we did go back along the last bit through the woodlands from Victoria Rock Road to Thursday Rock, then went to the Great Eastern Highway on a track heading north.

Bad news is i have to go back to work on Tuesday.

Hi Motherhen

Nothing like a bit of adventure, eh?

Pity about having to work though.

Cheers

Darn pity work gets in the way of travelling. Have another week's leave booked in November to go to Bali where my sister and partner have built a house up in the mountains. Then i will have to tell the boss where to go next year for a longer period so we can go north or central during winter. Regards to you and Judith (How is the knee?)

G'day Motherhen, pity about the work, I still have some to do occasionally, but just as well I still earn a bit.

Wondering what size your panel is and the battery bank too please? Do you know your daily useage? Even with the LED lighting, the fridge and useage off the inverter can whittle it away overnight.

Hi JohnR

I think the panel is an 90 watt one, we bought some years ago to use with the wind up van. Can't say much about the battery - bought locally, so bill tells me nothing but 'battery'. We ran a 40 litre Engel round the clock, and two 12 volt fluro lights (from the old caravan days too). That was all we had running from it - no inverter.

Hi Davoe - My map shows Nalarine Rock about 5 kms west of the track. There weren't any obvious side tracks coming from it. We camped by a salt lake about 9 kms south of the GE Hwy, and were surprised to see passing traffic - firstly a young geologist who asked us if we knew where we were because he was a bit lost, and a CALM vehicle who drove south and returned a bit later. A few although vehicles probably from companies to do with mining exploration. We only tackled this track as a grader was going through, and had been preceded by a bulldozer which had moved off blockages and trimmed overhanging branches.

We only tackled the major roads through the woodlines, ie south the Burra Rock and Cave Hill Rock (where we stayed overnight), and back to west Victoria Rock Road from Cave Hill. That was a lovely drive through regrowth sand plains full of wildflowers. As you say, we probably would have gone OK on some of the lines.

Motherhen, Does that mean that the B/tracker is not dustproof?

Hi briggzee - The Bushtracker is dust proof but it stayed home this time. The F250 lets dust in around the tailgate, and even with some self adhesive foam stripping we never sealed it all.

Hi Motherhen

RE. The F250 lets dust in around the tailgate, and even with some self adhesive foam stripping we never sealed it all.

When I drove utes with hard canopy's we would leave the rear side sliding window open about an inch and it would stop the dust getting sucked in the tail gate,, It Works..

Cheers

Richard

Hi Mrs Hen ,
I did the opposite to you this weekend and took the new 16 ft BT for a spin . Destroyed a fairly new tyre on a rock , but no damage to the structure .
Amazing to be down by the river , in the "back of beyond" and think "a shower would be OK this morning ".
Willie .
