Forumites,
Planning to drive up to Karijini next weekend, not sure whether to go via Mt Augustus or straight up the Gt Northern Hwy as yet, I've got both routes planned. Realistically how long would the trip to Karijini take direct to Karijini, is there any nice places for a one night stop over on the way up? Looking to take in scenery and wild flowers etc etc.
How long would the trip via Mt Augustus take, realistically, again best route and any nice stop overs. Family trip, plan to be on the road around eight to nine days. I have found the trek from Mt Augustus to Karijini in the trek notes, looks OK, I've also planned that into the trip, if we decide to go that way.
Thanks in anticipation for any assistance rendered.

Straight drive to Karijini via GNH about 14 hours. You haven't said if you are planning on camping or are towing a caravan and ages of your children these are all factors that have to be taken to account.
GNH pretty boring we just did the trip thru The Midlands Rd via Mingenew, Coalseam NP, Mullewa, Yalgoo, Mt Magnet GNH to Auski Roadhouse. Karijini absolutely fantastic.

Dave,
Towing a camper trailer, wife and teenage (14) daughter. Thanks for the info, looking forward to Karijini, could well break the trip up by stopping off on the way up, looking for somewhere half decent, bit scenic etc. Coalseam what was that like, how long to get there? Camping facilities etc anything, don't mind if there isn't we're pretty well self contained.

Hi Martyn

Coal seam is an interesting place to camp and spend a bit of time. Take a look at the fossil cliffs too. When we were there 4 years ago, there were toilets in the day area, but not in the designated camps.

Martyn
There are bush camping sites in the Coalseam Park, we actually stayed at Mingenew CP,we like our hot showers, am trying to add some photos to places site please bear with me.
Coalseam was very pretty with wild flowers at the beginning of September when we were there, but may be beginning to die off now. If going thru this way and via Yalgoo stop of at Jokers Tunnel just outside Yalgoo something different to see, you could alsobush camp here.
Regards Dave

As you head up north of Meekatharra on the Highway, there are a couple of wells from the stock route days, and tributaries or rivers, all of which offer good camping opportunities (no facilities).

Are you guys talking about the Hamersley Ranges? :)
Sorry but i can't get into these name changes, bit like having a mate called Bob who changes his name to Charles, you will always think of him as Bob :)
