I'm from the West, but enjoyed some nice free camping spots around the Eyre Peninsular a couple of years ago. We were there in January and despite it being school holidays always had the sites to ourselves.

On the east side of the Eyre, a bit north of Tumby Bay is Lipson Cove. This is a delightful spot on the beach near a tern rookery. This is an isolated and designated free camping site with drop toilets.

Some nice spots around the coast on the cliff drives south of Streaky Bay.

Particularly on the west side of the Eyre Peninsular we found a lot of old roads running roughly parallel to present roads, screened by trees. If not a highway, there is no traffic during night anyway.

As always, we drive until we feel like stopping, and found the Eyre and even the highway around Ceduna have plentiful quiet spots to stop.

Recommend Port Vincent on east side of York Peninsular. Caravan park is right on the point surrounded on 3 sides by ocean. If you like seafood, the Blue Manna crabs will be starting their run about now and you can buy fresh local oysters for $7/doz. Walk into town is approx 100 metres

As a Coffin Bay resident, ( and a crows supporter so please dont talk about hawthorn again please!!!) I would recommend the coast road after Cowell for free camping, then Lipson Cove, then Pt. Lincoln National Pk (spalding cove or whalers way ) , then Coffin Bay National pk, then Halls Bay and Drummond point, then Beards Bay and Ackermans creek, then Davernpoint Creek just past Ceduna.

Unless the bottom of the yorke and the wastern eyre have changed since they were mu stamping grounds then it is very much of a case of find a good spot that apeals to you and set up camp
