Hope to make it sunday - as I'm beginning design of a low cost tough trailer which I hope will be morfable between carrying bikes and camper use and its great to see what others have done.

Vic 4wd show is on also last week in Oct and tickets 1/2 price for 4wd club members.

Hi Robin. I noticed on your pic that you use plasma rope on your winch. I wonder what size and length? Any heating issues? I am looking into it for the Landcruiser. That & some tyre pressure sensors may be on the list to look at during the 4x4 show.
Cheers, Tony.

Hi Tony

I have 18 meters of 9mm rope only as I wish to keep pulling force up as my 9500lb is sometimes not quite enough.
Carry 2 or 3 extention straps though and find this flexible and lower cost approach.

My rope which came direct from Masterpull USA shows signs of melting on the layer against the drum, despite a nylon cover over its first 2 meters. Doesn't look pretty but doesn't seem to affect strength.

Next time I will buy next thicker size - as only real issue I have had with it is an unanticipated one of the top layer pulling thru to a lower layer under load.
