I have a 3.0 litre TD Navara (direct injected) and recently I have noticed that in, mostly 3rd gear, under load or pushing it hard around 2300 rpm it starts flat spotting. I believe it is fuel pump/injector problem and I have not run out of fuel and mostly fill from the same pump as my patrol. Before I start playing with the pump and injectors I am just wondering if anyone else has had this problem or if it could be something else? Thoughts?

Fuel filter?
Usually a sign for me that the filter is starting to get clogged on the pajero.
Trying to think of simpler things first :o)
I find 3rd I tend to hang onto full throttle longer that 1st or 2nd, where it revs out faster.

Thanks John

That is what I am hoping... replacing filter and trying a fuel cleaner - hopefully an easy fix. You are right about holding 3rd more. It does happen in 4th but need a pretty long stretch to get the revs up.

Cheers

Absolutely Stu. On the right hand side of the gearbox is a switch that plays up. Costs about $50 from memory. Go for a drive and whilst in 3rd push the gear lever sideways a bit and you'll notice the engine back to normal. It seems to be 3rd gear that's affected. The switch is a bit tricky to replace; my dealer said it was easy and only take 5 minutes, maybe he has made a special socket but it took me probably an hour. Your nissan service department SHOULD be aware of this neutral switch. If not reply back here and I'll dig out the part number and exact cost for you. Cheers Rus.

I have taken the Navara for a drive and did what you said and I think you are right on the money! Thanks. Powering along in third and it starts to flat spot by pulling the gear stick to the right the engine goes back to normal. When I release the pressure the ute gets a bit of extra go for a second and then flat spots again. Would it be to much trouble to find the part number? I am still going to put a cleaner through the fuel and maybe the filter but I think you may have saved me a heck of coin!

Thanks again.

No probs Stu. For Nissan D22 3.0 l td..............Switch assembly, neutral position. part no. 32006-23U60 now subbed to part no. 32006-23U6A. Cost is $47 +gst. (I rang my dealer spare parts girl this arvo to confirm all this). There's about 3 or 4 switches on the gearbox and at first glance they look the same, but you'll notice they have different shaped connector sockets so you won't remove the wrong one, will you?. Glad to be of help. Rus.

Give nizzbits a try for the parts also. Great people for Nissan parts. Saved over $600 bucks on the turbo for the patrol. nizzbits@hotmail.com.

Cheers. Mick

HI Rus and all,

Well I'll be! It worked. I replaced the switch late Friday and tested it well over the weekend and it seems to be all fixed!

Thanks Rus.

Although there did not seem to be any visual difference between the old and new switch, once installed the problem stopped. Much better than injectors and diesel pump!

Thanks again
