Is anybody using the gme tx 3440 with the full function through the
mic,I would be interested to see if they would purchase the same again. Also what is the best antenna to suit for general touring.(patrol ute with provision on top of tray or bull bar)prefer not to have a pole on b/b.

Hi Grant
When I changed vehicles recently, my old but very good TX4000 would not fit in the Prado. Problem solved, purchased a new TX3440 UHF. It works like a charm. Have the control head mounted under the front dash and all functions are controlled through the microphone.

The trouble with modern four wheel drives today is that there are limited spaces for radios etc... The new GME TX3440 fixes this problem. My only concern at first was the volume, would it be loud enough hidden way up under the dash? No problems at all, we are able to hear clearly even at only half volume.

I have no regrets and can recommend this as a top radio, and yes I would buy another if I had to. Australian made, full 3 year warranty.

Cheers

Hi Grant,
For most general situations I use a GME 4.5db gain aerial, mounted on the bull bar. In desert trips, I have used the 2.1metre GME aerials
It all depends on who you intend to use the set up.

If you are diesel, I would not recommend the thin wire type, as the vibration with diesels tend to give these type of antennas a short life.

The only thing that worries me is that the microphone is usually the weak link, I know a few people including myself, that carry a spare mike.

Its more the cable/connector that is likely to give trouble - should be available now as a spare part - only GME mic you can get spares for

Failing that the WHOLE mic has a RRP of $99 - prob find one heaps cheaper then that!
