Thanks to "nowimnumberone", "mattche" & "Dingo 77", they were right on the money.
The "knocking sound on startup turned out to be the Dual Mass Flywheel being stu**ed. Got it replaced with a solid flywheel conversion kit and now sounding and running as smooth as silk.
