If you are over 50 try Australian Pensioners Insurance Agency
( APIA) I insured my 4x4 with them and pay $34.00 per month.

I'll second that.

Have House & contents, ($350K/$25K) for $400,
99 Disco (Market value) for $470
96 Courier 4x4 (market value) for $350
82 Viscount C/van ($6K) for $110.

Get a 24/7 phone quote on 13 50 50

No connection other than satisfied customer.

I rang round and this was the best I could find for policy cover/price.

I tried them, we have our house, and car with them, then tried 4x4, got quote. but when I asked about van they said they only give 20,000 public liability. Which if van should break away from car for any reason, then 20,000 would not replace a damaged car or anything if it hit anything or anyone.
So didnt know what to do.

What are your ideas on that

Just checked MY van Ins. (A.P.I.A.) and I quote from their handbook:
The Max, liability for one event is $10,000,00:00 + legal costs. If your tow vehicle is also insured by them they will pay to a max. of $20,000,000:00 + legal costs.
Your mention of the van breaking away from the car and causing damage would be covered by Comprehensive Ins or Third Party Property.
Public Liabillity relates to things like someone tripping over an electrical cord left lying on ground, or slipping on spilled liquid that you had responsibility for etc. Public Liability doesn;t cover vehicle accident damage.
I have van, house and m/vehicle insured with them and am very happy with cover and costs.

CIL have proven to be an excellent insurance company for our family. Our son totalled his caravan 250km from Newman. His total out of cost expense was the $100 excess. The van had to be picked up by a tilt truck and taken back to Newman - where it was declared a write off. The insurance company accepted the photographic evidence to declare the write off. Within a fortnight the full payout was made, the towing was paid, and they could have had accomodation as well, but as we were still in Newman they stayed in our annex.

Friendly helpful staff who took the time to talk two very upset young people through the traumatic aftermath of an accident.

Couldn't be more impressed!

Have a mate who is with CIL, and he is very happy with them.
When telling me about it and what he is covered for. Explained it
as per Jo's reply. Me I am with RAC only because every else is with
them.cheers Brian

G'day Hugheys,

I can also highly recommend CIL. Coming home to Perth from Adelaide earlier this year, I did a wheel bearing on the van, which then demolished the brakes and chewed out the stub axle. Washer holding wheel on was the thickness of a razor blade and would have given way in about another 10 Klms. Fortunately I called into Nullarbor R/H for the night and discovered the wheel at an odd angle. The next morning I called CIL who organised a tilt truck to pick up van. They initially were going to deliver to Ceduna, 300 Klms away, but as the truck had to come from Norseman, 900 Klms away, I requested them to authorise the van to go to Norseman for repairs and I could go home to Perth. I arranged to travel to Norseman when van was ready, and CIL agreed and offered to pay my fuel costs there and back to Perth. Needless to say I am very happy with their prompt and friendly service.

The only reason I originally suggested APIA was because they were a helluva lot cheaper then any one else . I had the misfortune to get stuck in a river crossing earlier this year. Water got into the air-con compressor, starter motor and into the interior ruining the carpets. I rang APIA and informed them of my misfortune, and although the car was driveable ( sort of, as the starter didnt always want to work ) they insisted it be brought in on a flatbed trailer to their designated workshop in the Perth CBD. I had my car back in four days with new starter motor, aircon compressor and new grey carpets fitted throughout the whole vehicle. Does not get any better than that !
