Guys after some advice here. I have a strange noise coming from my front right wheel area.

Basically If I make a sharp left turn at a reasonable speed I get this horrible grinding noise. It actually sounds like the tyre is rolling off the rim and the rim is scraping on the ground, obviously that is not happeneing just trying to convey the sound.

The noise is not the same squeek that you get when on full lock.

I have jacked the front end up and cannot see anywhere where it could be scraping, I have very minor play in the hub up and down, but that is the same on both sides.

I only get the noise in the right wheel when turning left, nothing when turning right.

Any ideas?? Do I need to pull the Hub apart to have a look in there??

My Prado is doing a very similar thing ATM. Mine starts happening when the drive train is fully warmed up. mechanics can't find anything wrong but it is there all right. Will watch this topic with interest. They have eliminated the front and center diffs and supposedly the wheel bearings too. Very strange and hard to diagnose.

I was once told that to check the CV joints, stop in a smooth flat carpark area, turn steering full lock, and drive slowly around a 90 degree turn. Then reverse back on the same lock. Do both left and right turns. Apparently horrible grinding noises (especially when reversing back) generally means worn or faulty CV joints.
