Hi All
Is there any type of Caravan Cover to protect them from hail
damage when they are not in use, we cant leave it in a shed or
under shade sails ect, its fully insured, and I know people out their
will say what would happen if it hails when you are travelling,?
thats what your insurance is for ect.
Its a 21 foot Off Roader.
Cheers
Daza.

Are you suggesting you need protection from hail when parked at home because you fear your insurance company won't pay out?
Perhaps you need to speak to your insurance company. I know
mine is covered whether it is parked in a caravan while travelling or in our front yard.
I'm yet to see a policy that does not provide cover when parked at home.
If you are that concerned about protection from hail damage then I would invest in a shade or roofed cover, like a carport. Otherwise check your insurance.

Its certainly out there.
Who actually covers it , I'm not sure.
My parents Cvan was hit by hail twice in their yard and it was covered by the Cvan insurance both times.

Had a decent hail touch-up in
Esperance, WA several years ago. Except the roof, as we have a poptop which didn't get one dent, all the other panels were replaced under insurance. The van was 2 years old.
We now live in the
Gold Coast and frequently get hail storms in summer. Thought about putting up a Stratco carport but we've been lucky so far and have just stopped worrying.
If it gets hit then get it repaired. The cladding is a looking a bit shabby anyway. We figure that's why we have insurance.

Daza ,
How do you get around the problem that the solar panels will be covered , so the batteries will die .
I am like you , I had a cover made for my camper because I just did not like to see it left out in the rain getting hammered by the elements . It's not as if they are a cheap bit of gear .
Thanks ,
Willie .

Hi DAZA,
Have you thought to try a sailmaker, might cost a fair whack but Hood Sails in
Brisbane make custom covers for all sizes of boat. A caravan being a slightly rounded shoebox should not pose any hassle compared to flybridges ect.
As for those boofheads saying just leave it outside and if it does get hit thats what insurance is for, go to hell. Left unprotected out in the elements will just make it deteriorate, If I had a piece of gear worth as much as a 21 FOOT OFFROAD VAN sitting outside I would be sitting beside it with my shotty just in case some queer looked at it wrong. It is an investment, protect it. A bit of money now will reap itself many times over when it comes time to sell.
Ask yourselves this if you were a prospective buyer:
Do I take the daggy looking thing with warped cladding or the prisitine shiny one that looks as it rolled off the showroom ???
Others may not be as pedantic as me though, I have been known to spend three hours a weekend buffing the ol GU into shape, but if I come to sell Im ahead. I can see my reflection in fatso from 20 paces so probably I deserve to be classified as obsessive-compulsive.

Im With you Ben, I have the camper fully covered. Its probably worth a Tenth of the above mentioned van but hey if I can protect it from the elements I will. I have even left my work for 1/2 hour an go and grab my wifes car and throw into spotlight under cover
parking if they forcast a hail storm and I see it coming on the BOM website. Have saved my wifes car twice and my own (previous cars) twice. $500 a pop to the NRMA for a claim and a vehicle that has dropped in value unless your lucky enough to have the dents popped out with out them cutting roofs off and wacking a new one on then get all the leaks, rust, and nothing lines back up properly again not including the inconvenience of it all. If your out and about and you cop it
well there's not much you can do about it bar throw the sleeping bag over it. I always tell my wife cover the roof and rear quarters with picnic blankets if possible.Boot, doors, bonnet can be unbolted and replaced. If Im in the prado and I happen to be in the line of fire I will jump the gutter and
park under a shops awning if I have too. Fussy, you betcha I am. Work to friggn hard to neglect them, and your right it pays when you go to get rid of them. 10K for my old 89 hilux condition, servicing says it all. Regards Steve M

hi there - not sure if this helps at all. depending on the size you want, i have seen some vanners use spa covers (not the hard ones - the flexible type as these are padded and offer more protection as van covers.
for your size they may make one that suit the swim out type spas.
cheers mick
