I have an old Barrett 225 RC HF radio. It doesn’t have selcall, telcall or scan. It does have mute, RFDS call and 4 useful channels in it. It has the 737 networks 11612, 8022, 5455 and the RFDS common night frequency of 2020khz.
It’s an old clunker, but receives and transmits extremely well.
Ideal basic HF radio for the impoverished.
There is no aerial or mount with this offer.
It was given to me, I put some 737 channels in it, lined it up and repaired a fault.

Now I’d like to pass it along to a deserving person. I have too many other radios here.
The catch is they will have to pay freight from the Gold Coast (about $30 if you don’t live in Tasmania), and you’ll have to wait until I can get time to post it. (maybe a week or so ?)

So…the first email detailing why you need this radio, gets the set. It may be for you personally, or a charity type organization.

Why am I making this offer?
Simple. What goes around comes around. The gentleman who gave it to me for nothing is the good guy here, I’m just passing it along. Take a bow, Stu.
This offer expires at midnight EST 9th October 2007.
I’m always on about having some comms and I’m putting my radio where my mouth is J)

Get your begging emails written and go to http://home.iprimus.com.au/jimshire/ where you’ll find my email address.

I forgot to mention, the winning email will have to promise that the radio will not be resold for profit.

Mate, it's been my experience that most people will help out if they're in a position to do so. Australians are like that, and I'm constantly amazed at their generosity and good nature.
The guy who gave me this set (Stu50) is happy about me passing it on, what more can one say :))

I will be interested to see where it winds up.

BUT, I will be VERY disappointed if it is sold later on for profit.

Good on you Jim.

Stu,

I can assure you that the HF will not be on sold as I am the recipient. I told Jim that when I have mastered the unit and wish to upgrade then I will offer the unit in the same manner that he has.

And

A big thank you to Jim for the opportunity of getting a HF unit to start out on

Cheers Kev

Kev,
Congratulations on the HF. I hope you get a lot of enjoyment out of it. There really is a whole HF community out there on the end of your antenna.

Once you are hooked, it won't be long before you will be after something more recent. I have contacted every VKS base in Oz from the home paddock in Cairns, even Perth! HF is really wonderful, but to get the most from VKS, one really needs selcall to "wake up" the bases outside of sked times.

VKS-737 website
Anyway, Enjoy.

Stu

Stu,

The homework and a HF education is about to begin LOL

Once mastered the unit will more than likely be upgraded and the unit offered on here again. But I needed to start somewhere.

Cheers Kev

We all have to start somewhere, that one was my first HF.

I now have a couple of 9323's with 9350's and a couple of 6924's.

LOL,

No. Only have one 4wd. I usually take one of the 6924's when we go bush as a backup. The other 9323/9350 is a spare.
Repairs can take a while up here as all have to be sent south.

It is a long story about the "spare" 9350 which I won't go into here. The "spare" 9323 I picked up at local auction for $140!! (gotta have a win sometimes)
