Gday
I have just had deep and meaningful chats with one of my customers about the cost of things. He has done the exercise and I can sell him my product cheaper than he can get it from China.
I thought that was just great.
China price $00.04 ea US , plus delivery and duty
Me $00.05 ea Aus

Hi Muzbry
You certainly have to think things thru these days - and I hope your paying yourself reasonable wages.
We are working thru installing an Asian robot which will remove the chinese advantage of low labour rates in our bullbar factory.
Could be hope yet for australia !

Which company Robin? I used to work at Tasman bullbars building the same things for about 13 years, I've been out of that area for some time now though.

The scene has probably changed a lot Andrew , I work for a mid sized engineering company in Dandenong (
Southport) and we took over an ailing manufacturer called advanced bars and its beginning to pay off now.
They tell me that it can take 8 hrs to polish a big truck bullbars and its workcare waiting to happen , hence even a large robot can pay for itself.

On the basis of that, you are leaving money on the table... and your product is probably better than the chinese and you may even be a more reliable local supplier.

Good to see you competing with the chinese and winning.
Hope they are stopped from flooding the market at a cheap price until they remove the competition.
Congratulations

Unfortunately they are starting to buy Australian businesses ! Watch out that they don't take the technology, research and customer lists and then close down the Australian factory.

Chinese. I am sure they are great people, but so sad to see what is happening to Aus Made stuff. Particularly in the furniture industry - people losing jobs each week and companies closing every other. So sad and so many skill sets being lost as children are encouraged to avoid the industry. Chinese are buying our timber (the highest bidder) then shipping it back in at half the price Aus manufacturers can do.

Also with Australia's less than ideal labelling laws, the product is advertised as "Australain Tasmanian Oak" or what ever the timber may be and consumers must then sometimes presume that it is an Australian made product.

Nutter I hear you. This is what we are up against every day with the pressure of keeping a factory full of people employed very clear in our head.
Warfer69 - I hope you had fun in China. I hold no ill will towards them, the whole situation just stinks a bit. They have their own trial and tribulations and as far as I can tell are just trying to survive like the rest of us.
