Hi,

Is a CDMA mobile phone of any use north of Cairns on the way to the top??

If youve got kids itl be handy to keep them amused playin the games.(for about 10 mins anyway)
Seriously tho I have no idea, but if the cape is like the rest of Australia you wont have a large phone bill.
Try Telstra.com they have coverage maps of everywhere.

Yes it does in limited areas; Around Cape Trib, Cooktown from Archer Point up, and most of Weipa. Thats about it.

I saw a Telstra site - which said a new tower opened at T.I recently , so tip looks to be covered as well .

Did I tell you that I bought the first CDMA phone in cape york .
Just got an email from Michelle to say that Injanoo has stoped acsess to Virlya piont and also the beach run south of Somerset . Ill find out more when Peter gets back from this trip.

I can confirm what Eric said - I was up there lat Aug & Sept and CDMA coverage had recently been expanded with a few more towers. At Archer River we saw two guys from the National Telecommunication System ___ or something and they said you could get coverage just a litte short of Archer River; anyway we did not test it here put in Weipa, Bamaga, Thursday Is no problems and at Punsund Bay on the beach no worries and also at Chilli Beach.Cheers, Beddo
