G'day Willem,

I read about your setup with great interest. We carry pretty much the same stuff in terms of numbers, although not identical in nature. For example, we have the same amount of tyres, but they are tubeless, the same amount of fuel but in a long range tank and a couple of jerry cans...and so on...

My question to you is, what is your all-up weight? We have had to rationalise a lot of our gear to keep within legal limits. I had to send an assortment of tools home because they weighed so much - much to my dismay.

We'll be at Peterborough next Tuesday and I wouldn't mind catching up for a look at how you've done things.

Cheers,

Russ

G'day Russ and Sue

The Nissan weighs in at 2575kg(fuelled up and packed) when I weighed it last, and it may even be a tad lighter now. Its GVM is 2800kg. The trailer weighs in at 800kg fully laden but that weight soon dissipates as I refuel. I have made some alterations to the trailer recently and it probably weighs in at 850kg now.

I will not be in town on Tuesday. Going up to Warraweena in the Flinders on Monday arvo for a few days. Any time before that is OK.

Cheers

I bought mine through Sprint as well. $33 for the front and $39 for the rear. That included freight direct ex Adelaide.

Gday Willem,
Looks Good!
I cheated and bought a set of Tanami draws off ebay. Im in the process of fitting them now. They come out of a 100 series but are going to fit my 80 with hardly any mods. at all.
Im wrapped with them.

HI Willem

Tell me a bit about the polyairs. Are these those black bags that can be pumped for various ride heights/loads??

In the Troopy I went for bucket seats and a centre aisle - costs a bit in terms of engineering, but great to move around in. Also means I can send the in flight hostie down back for serious snacks on the run - no not really.

I'm still resisting the argument for a trailer which means the car has to bear the full weight of our decisions. Hence trips with long endurance periods some tools have had to go - even the Tirfor. - in favour of food, water, too many clothes (can't win this one)

Cheers

Hi Chris

The Polyairs are Orange in colour and fit inside the rear coil springs. I bought them mainly to take the bounce out of the trailer on the back and only run them at 10psi. There are many on this Forum who have said that they are happy with them but then others have had bad experiences with them.

Having spent a lifetime travelling I learn all the time. I was very much against a towing a trailer but with older age found that buggerising around withg a roof rack just wasn't working. I also tended to carry too much inside the wagon. Now the GQ is 225kg under the GVM instead of 300kg over. Yes, the trailer is a pain sometimes especially in rough and sandy country on X-country trekking but I have learned to live with that. I have now made some alterations to the trailer which should make camping even more pleasant. I will be able to try it outon our trip to the Vic get-gother in the Pyrenees next month.

Cheers
