Hi All,
Vehicle = 04 100 series V8
I recently noticed a hissing noise coming from under the bonnet of my car after the engine was switched off - I could also smell fuel. After inspection I found that the part that sits just behind the fuse box under the bonnet was making the noise (this part has two round top parts with rubber lines connecting and sits between the fuse box and firewall). Sounded like a hiss / pump noise. I tried following the lines and its obviously something to do with the fuel system. There was no evidence of fuel anywhere.
I had been driving for about an hour on fairly deep river stones in about 40 degree temp. The car ran fine and after getting home I checked it again to find the same noise still present but much fainter a good hour after or so stopping. I opened the fuel filler cap and released pressure (none more than ordinary) and the noise under the bonnet stopped.
Hope that all makes sense...Anyone have any ideas? Is this something to be concerned about?
Cheers

Although I am not familiar with 100 Cruisers, that is almost certainly your evaportaive emissions canister.
It is normal for the
tank to retain pressure if the fuel gets very hot, and there may be a valve in the canister or it may be a slight leak.

Thanks Philip - Im going to get myself a manual for the 100s which will help at least identify parts. Theres not much room under the bonnet with the V8 - Not like the old troopie where you could actually see stuff and work it out!
